Avoidance Biggs build

blank.gif?v54Biggs Darklighter + R2-F2 + Stealth Device (31)
blank.gif?v54Kyle Katarn + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow (31)
blank.gif?v54Wedge Antilles + R2-D2 + Draw Their Fire + Shield Upgrade (38)

How could I improve this build?  The idea is to boost biggs' avoidance.  I use R2F2 as his action, and give him focus through Kyle.   With Kyle's blaster turret and the 2 X-Wings, I do have some firepower too.

Biggs + R2D2 + Shield Upgrade

Chewbacca + Draw their Fire + Recon Specialist + Milenium Falcon

Prototype Pilot + Stealth

Now thats a tanky build. The idea is to get Biggs to eat some fire from Chewie, then move out of range to regen a point of shields and move back. Chewie munches on the crits to Biggs. Prototype Pilot is hard to hit and tries to jam.

Could work. Alternately:

Biggs + Shield Upgrade + R2D2

Luke + Elusiveness + R2F2

Kyle + Recon Specialist + Draw their Fire + Ion Cannon + Moldy Crow

I tried badly to make the biggs, wedge, hwk lists work and it always came up a little short.  Games were close but I couldn't consistently win. (Using Kyle with your biggs, or using Jan and a different Biggs, with draw their fire on Wedge, or a hawk with chewie, there are lots of similar options)

I found the firepower to be lacking, while you may not take a hit in the first round, neither can you count on consistently killing anything, especially at range 3.

Then bumping becomes a major issue, avoiding it limits your manuevering severely, and you are already somewhat limited because you would rather keep your planes close.

Anyways it wasn't a bad list, just not a consistent winner.  And if I want to play a mediocre list I will play interceptors because they are way more fun to fly.

Unless your set on running a hwk graven will give you a cheaper way to pass a focus to Biggs.

Maybe something along the lines of

Biggs r2f2

Graven

Chewbacca + DtF

That leaves you 3 points for either recon specialist on Chewbacca or a stealth device on Biggs.

This will up your evades as Biggs, give him a focus and allow crits to be pulled away.

I have found that, too. I could easily chew thru large base lists, and I beat Han Shoots First a few times, but it simply wasnt reliable against lists with 4+ ships or swarms

This is a nice option, however it does leave a vulnerability.  Higher skilled imperial pilots could be shooting at Biggs before he gets a chance to focus.  Hmmm... gotta think weather this is worth the risk.

I have found that building your list around biggs just does not work. Investing in a model that will be the first to die seems (in my games) wasteful. Points are better spent on getting more 'dakka dakka' or ships in that list.

I would only ever take a plain biggs or maybe, a shield if no other suitable targets have a shield. R2-F2 suffers from bumping and a stealth device on a 2 evade dice target...meh. Even combining when combining the mech with the stealth... that is 6 points I can use to beef other stuff.

Biggs dies... plain and simple, why invest?

Note that (IMO) a plain Biggs is THE best rebel ship character.

My take on this got me quite excited, it might be garbage though?

Jan Ors-Squad Leader-Blaster Turret-Nien Nunb  (32pts)

Wedge Antilles-R2-D2-Push The Limit                   (36pts)

Biggs Darklighter-R2-F2-Stealth Device                (31pts)

Jan can use Squad Leader to give Biggs an extra action which will be focus, his own action will come from R2F2.

Jan will also take a stress to give wedge an extra dice, and he can ptl to focus and target lock if he needs to, Nien helps negate the stress on Jan. The blaster helps up some hitting, and i like R2D2 on Wedge for those end of battle moments when it's just him left.

Any thoughts welcome, as like I said it might be rubbish :)

I agree that the best Biggs is a naked Biggs.  The main reason for that is that as an X wing, he'll be relatively high on the kill list anyways.  To get the most out of him, you have to have someone that's quite a bit higher on the kill list.  A beefed up Wedge comes to mind.  So, you want to spend those 6 points beefing up whomever Biggs is protecting.

Furthermore, one thing I've found that helps against certain people / builds - don't have Biggs cover everyone.  It's nice to present them a choice - take that R2 shot on the rookie, or the R3 shot on Biggs so I can eventually shoot at Wedge?  If they shoot at the rookie, then Biggs'll be around longer, protecting Wedge.  If he shoots at Biggs, then your Rookies get better shots at his team.  Win Win.

This is my favorite Biggs list

Lando + DtF + Nien Nunb

Biggs + R2-F2

Rebel Operative + Blaster Turret + Recon specialist + Moldy Crow

Lando works great with Biggs and once Biggs dies he can then work well with the Rebel Operative.  The Rebel Operative should be using the Blaster turret with TL + Focus every turn.

Figure out how to deal more damage quickly.

Even if you get an action and can boost Biggs to 4 agility and then pass him a Focus with Kyle that focus is only good for one attack.  Once an attack gets through then Biggs is down to 3 agility with an action and still needing Focus from somewhere else to maximize the extra die.  Despite all the effort that is going into keeping Biggs alive he is still going to take a lot of shots and go down leaving you with two ships.

Maybe Wedge will be able to safely draw a crit off of Biggs but then he needs to do a green to recover it while Biggs is already in trouble.

Furthermore - If Biggs just focused himself, Kyle could give him a second focus to use on a second defensive roll.  And while I haven't done the math on that, the math on R2F2 vs. Focus comes back heavily favoring focus.  Which would encourage me to think R2F2 + Focus vs. Focus x2 would still favor Fx2.

I was thinking that with 4 defense die, I might not HAVE to use the focus on the first attack - again I'm a gambling guy - but I could be able to save that focus for the 2nd or 3rd attack.

I play alot of games with four or five evade dice, and the green dice always fail me.  I once had 6 defense dice (Stealth Interceptor, long range, asteroid) and had a tie fighter put two damage on me.  I had to take a 10 minute break...

Theres alot less rage, and alot more consistent winning if you dont count on the green dice odds.  I agree with the above that Biggs naked is good.  But I also think four points for a shield upgrade is better than six points for a stealth upgrade and the droid.

For two less points I get a gauranteed "evade", with the shield taking the damage, and I can still focus with Biggs, which if hes getting shot at multiple times will give you at least one more evade.

Well, with 4 dice, the chance of rolling 2+ evades w/o focus is only 48%.  The chance of rolling 3+ evades is only 15%.

With the focus, it jumps to 85% and 52%.

So, without getting into deep math, i'd say you're looking at ~50/50 chance of losing something on the first attack, either the stealth because you were in that 15% of not rolling 2+ evades w/ focus - so you could even lose both, or the focus to boost you into that 85% range to keep the stress.  Though the more accurate way to look at it would be 5 dice, seeing as I would think you would want to force the first round to be at R3 on Biggs.

So then you're sitting at 62% and 28% for 2+ and 3+ evades w/o focus, and 93% and 72% w/ focus.

Note I'm focusing on 2 and 3 hits because those are the most common results you'll see.

So, it's possible, even plausible, that you could naturally roll 2 evades against the enemies 2 hits.  But doing that twice is only 38% chance... and 3 times is 24%.  Given if you make it through 3 times of rolling 2+ evades without spending your focus, then I'd say you're golden.

Dark Curse, range 3, asteroid, 1-shotted by the world's luckiest green squadron pilot... I know that rage

Something extremely similar happened to me awhile back and it still haunts me.   Worst of all.... it was in my VERY FIRST GAME.

I was trying to find a decent B-Wing x2 Build with Draw their fire and Biggs, but I can't seem to fit it all in 100 pts if you want the B-Wings to have missiles. Ideally I'd want both B-wings to have it, but you'd have to take both uniques.

Basically Biggs protects your missile carriers as long as possible to deliver payload, splashing the odd damage onto their shields before the dog fighting takes place. You may get 2 turns of concentrated fire on Biggs if you're "lucky" to have your opponent land crits.

Why would you want missiles on B-Wings when the HLC is so much better!

(just my opinion)

Well I'm trying to think about the Meta game and assume people will come out with a TIE swarm or 2. Assault missiles help and are decent if you aren't up against a swarm.

I find the Milenium Falcon title is invaluable. Being able to automatically evade 1 shot makes that ship last so much longer.

On Biggs???!!!.  You can only put that title on a YT-1300.

You have spent a lot of points just to keep Biggs alive.  Whose purpose is to keep Wedge alive.  This whole list relies heavily on everything working together in concert.  Lot's of things can go wrong.  For example once Biggs get's hit he loses his stealth device.  Klye does get two focus a turn and can give one to Biggs ever turn, but with his blater turret costing him a focus ever turn he fires (which hopefully is ever turn) He can run out of focus pretty quickly if he loses his action.  Losing actions in general is the weakness of this list.  The other weakness is that it MUST stay in at least close formation.  Once Kyle get's out of range of Biggs he can't support him.  Once Biggs gets too far away from Wedge we have the same problem

I'm not saying that this list won't work.  I am saying that it will be hard to do well.  Mistakes will have dire consequences.

All Biggs buys you is time while your other killers need to take care of business, at least to the point that WHEN Biggs goes, you don't really need him anymore. So, partnering him with another support character, IMO, is just too defensive and you probably end up wasting too much time and effort staying alive when killing the enemy first does that job for you. The last Biggs list I ran was Biggs + R2D2, dual B-Wings with HLC/FCS and I had a good time with it.
