Will Wave 4 Push you to Specialize?

Recommended Posts

Up until this point I'd been grabbing a lot of everything and, although I prefer Imperials, playing both sides a lot. Maybe it's because I haven't gotten to play enough to even feel like I've really gotten a sense for all I can do with my wave 3 ships, but there's just too much stuff to use, let alone afford, unless you're a professional game player. There's B-wing and HWK stuff I've wanted to try but there just hasn't been time. So while I guess I'll pick up the transport for sure since I'm excited for playing more scenarios, and I'll probably cave on the Corellian Corvette, I'm now thinking much more about just picking a side and going Imperial for the foreseeable future. Just getting some Aces and maybe adding in a Defender will give a lot to work with. Do others feel the same?

im tapering down on rebels a bit - im playing mostly imperials at the moment - loving the shuttle.

i will still get two of every wave4 ship but im not ramping up to 4 of anything.

my strategy of getting 2 of every ship has served me well and i find i have plenty of upgrades and combinations from this.

nice to see advanced sensors comes with one of the new wave4 ships - i own 2 and 2 more is all i will need to play 100pt squads.

i will get the rebel transport tho as i like the new upgrades and rebel pilots it comes with.

im not a huge fan of the UE, more into the original trilogy tbh.

Not gonna lock into one side or another.......yet. I may need research more into each ship, but If I had to choose a side now I would choose Rebels. Z-95 and E-Wing, yes please!

Money is tight, and with 3 kids and a wife i may need choose one or another to fly well.

When I buy I like to buy as many as I need for a 100pt squad. Having said that I can't really afford to buy 8 Z-95 Headhunters.

That would be well over $200 AU for me. Then 3 or 4 each of a Defender, Phantom and E-Wing. Another $200-300.

An expensive wave to be sure to cover all possibilities.

I have lots of TIEs, because like most people, I bought multiple core sets because of its fantastic value.

I don't get to play very often so when I do I am grateful and let the other player pick whatever faction they want. So I am not Rebel or Imperial sided.

Time to pick a side though. When I do it will be based on how cool the miniatures look and not so much the stats. I do not play in tournaments. I just play for fun with friends. Maybe I might wait until more waves come out. I'd hate to pick one early and then decide to change sides because of a cool miniature.

Having said all the above I just realised I supply the miniatures for all the games I play. So I am stuck getting them all, unless I want Rebel on Rebel or Imp on Imp.

My wallet just sighed.

It certainly won't cause me to specialize, but I'm a statistical outlier. Indeed, with certain highly desirable upgrades now available to multiple ships, that might be part of the goal of this wave. Still, specialization is perfectly acceptable. No reason everyone has to own every ship. And I still think most players will have a collection of both sides, even if one is more extensive.

Rebel player, but I still buy at least one of everything. That said, my gaming group is small and I share ships with other players, and I like having at least one of every card. Besides, I like the Defender and the Phantom, although not my favorite ship in terms of design at all, is tempting to field.

It's because of this very reason I've never "double dipped" on anything yet, not even the starter kit.  I did get the tie fighter and xwing boosters but only because they had different cards in them than the starter set.

Sure I can't do as "many" combinations as people who have multiples of every ship, but I still have more than enough ships to do many different combos and save a lot of money at the same time.

I will probably get the imperial aces as they have different cards as well as different painted models.

No - not yet, it'll be awhile before I settle - I'm the only one in my game group buying X-wing ,  I know other's buying in, but they're an hour or so away - we don't get to play so often, so I supply both sides when my local group plays.   Even if I didn't - I'd likely buy this, because I like flying both sides, and a wave full of just fighters is such a great addition - if wave 4 had been more support ships, freighters, bounty hunters - whatever, I probably would slow down - but being fighters - they'll be core to the meta I think.

yeah i am going to specialize in that now i will have TWO shield bags one with JUST Imperials and one with just Rebels...  I plan on getting 4 each of the new ships and 8 z-95s if my budget can swing it..  If I didnt spend it on this I would probbally spend my money on something stupid  like food or a house payment..lol  actually i am kind of looking forward to getting some patches and sewing them on to the bags eventually..  Heck i have a really really really hard time NOT buying a new ship or two every time I go to Barnes & Nobel!!!  Thats how i wound up with 8 Y wings!!

Nope.  I may not buy everything, or at least not in the quantities I have previously, but there is no way I am only going to limit myself to playing only one side.  Other than sheer economic constraints, playing/collecting only one side is too limiting.  What if I want to game with a new player who has no X-wing miniatures?  What if I want to host a huge battle?  What if I am stuck without available opponents and am so jonsing for an X-wing game that I indulge in a little solo-play (Han or otherwise *wink*)?  No, I like Peanut Butter AND Jelly.  Don't make me chose between them.

Z-95 aside, these ships cost a lot of points and you don't need that many of them. Even fielding 100 points worth of each and maybe 4 or so headhunters would still keep the price in line with what I have bought in previous waves

I already specilize due to... The awesomeness of the empire. Why fly anything else?

I have a few rebs that I picked up early on and may yet buy more but I don't get enough games in face to face and budgets are tight. If this game survives a other 2 years things might be different.

I've not specialised yet, mainly because the models are simply too cool not to have them, and all the cards and stuff are a really nice thing to have as well. I'll probably buy a couple Z95s and possibly 1 each of the others. I don't intend to buy 100pts of any though as it will just feel a bit weird (never mind the expense) to play without a clear dominance of movie ships.

I hope to use the 3 uberfighters primarily as prototype, objective-style ships in scenarios.

myself, i've been going back and forth;  wave 1 was all about imperials for me, during wave 2 i played almost exclusively rebels and once wave 3 came out i've been back to the imperials

and with the announcement of the E-wing i think it's a good time that wave 4 will push me back to the rebellion once again. However i'm slightly more imperial biased myself and i am highly looking forward to playing the defender and especially the phantom

though it is getting tougher and tougher to keep up with the vast amount of list options available i believe that playing both factions still has its advantages if you want to play competitively, because you have a much better understanding of how both factions fly, along with memorizing tactics and maneuver dials

I just buy one of each ship.

The only ones i have double are x-wings (one core and one expansion) and TIE's (2 core and 1 expansion)

I really like the game, but considering all the other gaes i play, i really can't afford to buy multiples of all the ships. If i did, i wouldn't have anything left for the other games

Sure sometimes you wish you had one more of a specific ship or card, but hey, you learn to use what you have...

I play mainly Imperial as it is, however I still like having a full complement of ships on both sides.

I'm hoping to keep going in that vein, with several each of the new ships on both sides, plus the big Rebel ones and at least one pack of Imperial Aces.
