Bottulf 1 Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) So we're starting our first campaign in RT, and I have one or two questions about space combat. Salvos: When you combine macrobatteries into a salvo does your number of successes on the attack roll count for all weapons in the salvo? So if you have 2 successes and your salvo includes 3 macrobatteries, does each battery hit with 2 hits each for a total of 6? Or does the salvo only score 2 hits total? Or do you still roll separately for each weapon in the salvo? Void Shields: I am correct in assuming that, unless overloaded, they regenerate between each salvo/weapon hit in a turn? If you fire 3 macrobatteries seperately and they get 1, 1 and 2 hits, all the hits just gets absorbed? Does void shield pop back up the next turn if they were overloaded? Or is that permanent for the encounter? (posted these also over on rpg.net). Cheers Bottulf Edited February 8, 2014 by Bottulf
jlsmith 1 Posted February 8, 2014 Void Shields regenerate each turn I think. and as for Macrobatteries salvo them will net you 6 hits (as per your example). I could be wrong it has been awhile since I played RT.

I also recommend not using the official rules for this, but some form of houserule. Shields regenerate every turn, and as I recall, between each ship firing at you. Does void shield pop back up the next turn if they were overloaded? Or is that permanent for the encounter?Next turn they are back on - unless the generator was damaged.

Or do you still roll separately for each weapon in the salvo? Hey, look, someone who should read the Mathhammer thread! If you're playing with the base rules, then as I read it before rolling to hit you declare whether or not you are salvoing. If you are, then as I understand it you roll for each macrobattery as normal, but add up all the damage and subtract the armour only once (which is how Grand Cruisers can annhilate enemies in one burst). However, you can only Critical Hit once during this salvo. Tenebrae is correct, they regenerate between every enemy that fires at you (unless damaged). Thus if you take a broadside from a Light Cruiser, and another Destroyer comes in to attack then you will get your full void shield complement against the Light Cruiser, and then assuming it was not damaged it comes back on line fully against the Destroyer. In your example, assuming the enemy vessel only has 1 Void Shield then the first Macrobattery hit is absorbed, and the next three get through.
