jlsmith 1 Posted February 5, 2014 Now I got the Abudance rating but how do i generate a game mechanics number for each abudance rating? i cannot generate a number for the resource depleation roll.
jlsmith 1 Posted February 7, 2014 I asked this the wrong way. When I generated a planet I got a plentiful Exotic metals, how do i generate the number for the resource? so that i can set up a colony and deplete the resources. Any help?
Tenebrae 429 Posted February 7, 2014 As far as I can tell - and I kinda hope I'm wrong, it works like this: Remember that 1d100 roll you made to determine that your exotic materials are plentiful? Thatever you rolled on that die is the "value-number" of the resource. The descriptor 'Plentiful' has no appearant game mechanical relevance. As far as I can tell, it's at best a tool for the GM to tell players that "Iron is plentiful" rather than "Right.. Industrial 99! You guys hit jack pot!" jlsmith 1 Posted February 7, 2014 I did think of that, but at that point you can run out of "Plentiful" resources after 3 or 4 years. even the Imperium is not that fast at mining.
Nameless2all 210 Posted February 7, 2014 I did think of that, but at that point you can run out of "Plentiful" resources after 3 or 4 years. even the Imperium is not that fast at mining. There has been a discussion about this in the Forums. I believe the writers intent was for everything (growth, depletion, special events, etc.) to be yearly, not monthly. With monthly, a ship would never arrive in time to save the colony when it reached 0 in one of it's stats, not to mention your PC's would feel like they were babysitting it the entire time in game. Yearly makes much more sense for the growth of it too.
jlsmith 1 Posted February 8, 2014 Still rolling a 99 on the Abundunce table you can use it up in 4 years maybe 5. it doesn't make any sense.
Tenebrae 429 Posted February 8, 2014 Agreed. Not a lot of playtesting went into this, I believe. Mind you, I'd expect colonies to also go through the rest of the resources in the system, ie in astroid belt and the like. But yea, still.
jlsmith 1 Posted February 9, 2014 Me and my Brother are going to create our own rules for this and once we do and have a workable (ish) mechanic we will post it here and see what you all think of it. but if anyone has any other ideas about this or know stuff that might be helpful please post. WilliamAsher 82 Posted February 9, 2014 I have house rules for this I have been using. We use a year for each cycle and divide the depletion for using resources for colony growth by 4. So far colonies reach size 10 long before they use up the resources on a planet. The rest is often used to set up long term harvesting/mining operations. The thing that the Imperium produces that keeps it running is people though, not productive colonies. Their main planets get ripped apart of anything useful and either set up as massive grain mills, or giant hive cities to produce billions necessary to fund the Imperial Guard and the God-Emperor's diet. That is correct but the Imperium still doesn't use up a planet that is rich in resorces in only a few years. Decades maybe but not only a few years. Pffffft, clearly SOMEONE'S Imperium isn't trying hard enough. The Imperium in my mind can cause a planet to go from verdant paradise to smog-soaked Hellhole in no time at all! jlsmith 1 Posted February 11, 2014 : P Pre-Heresy yeah they could. Post, Not so much. There are still planets in the Calixis Sub-Sector that still have resources to be used.
