Flight School - Lambda 101

Yeah, I think the Baffelo are going to be pretty fun, though I worry about sacrificing the health on the shuttle. Yorr plus Baffles is going to be pretty interesting as well. Could be an interesting way to pull a lot of stress at once.

I don't see it being used more than once or twice a game, but that's kind of the point. Shuttles struggle after the first pass unless you have Engine Upgrade.

This let's you get back in a turn earlier for 1 damage. (2 turn, eat stress, 2 turn keep it this time)

I think it's worth it if you only use it once.

Given the lack of pilot skill, initiative isn't too important - you can always spend that spare point on a tractor beam. 

Hell, bin off one tactician (two is still good!) and you can throw a tractor beam on all of them.

I tend to prefer FCS so you get the Target Lock on the second attack, but you might find it unnecessary. The article was written back in Wave 3, so Baffles and Tactician weren't out. Afterwards, I tended to do three with FCS, Gunner, Engine and two with Tactician.

The worst part is, I'm not even sure I'd realize how much trouble I'm in, when I see three Lambdas across the table.

Having just acquired 2 used Lambdas to join my black one, I was playing with some ideas too, that is, until one of the white ones gets cleaned up and moved to my office. It's such a gorgeous ship that I want to see it while working.

 

What I had was the following:

 

#1: Fire-control system, HLC, engine upgrade

#2: Fire-control system, HLC, engine upgrade, Intel agent (because the init bid means nothing, and might as well boost the right way).

#3: Collision detector, Darth Vader, Rebel Captive, Engine upgrade

 

Basically, two hammers and a Doom shuttle you may not want to shoot at if you're an ace.

 

The buzzsaw tactician-loaded Lambdas are interesting though!

If you're using a pure shuttle squad, then I definitely agree a Darth Vader shuttle is a good idea, and I agree Collision Detector is a good call. 

 

I think that FCS/Gunner is probably better in practice than FCS/Heavy Laser Cannon. Heavy Laser Cannons are amazing, but shuttles tend to have to take whatever shots they can; keeping a target in arc multiple turns isn't easy. Gunner/Fire Control gets you a target locked second shot that turn, before they bugger off behind you and you need to hand off the target to a wingman.

 

  • Omicron Group Pilot - Collision Detector, Darth Vader, Gunner, Hull Upgrade
  • Omicron Group Pilot - Fire Control System, Gunner, Tactician, Engine Upgrade
  • Omicron Group Pilot - Fire Control System, Gunner, Tactician, Engine Upgrade

 

I'll be very interested to try updating this concept with the Batplanes. Not enough points to have three with engine upgrades, but with their 4th attack die "baked in", they're arguably more dangerous. Certainly  tougher. Three Starkiller Base Pilots presents a scary mass of metal.

 

I think the Operations Specialist might complement a buzz-saw list well - since you anticipate missing a lot, handing off free focus tokens to nearby friends is a good deal.
