Demax Reboban 12 Posted January 24, 2014 Hi all. I'm working on a campaign that is set just after the fall of the empire and will take place on several war torn worlds. Anyone got any idea where I could get city scape style terrain to scale? I would love to see an X win powering down a torn up boulevard followed by tie fighters, avoiding overturning into a building... 1 QuinnCee reacted to this
LukesFather 211 Posted January 24, 2014 get some foam sheets (pink stuff) and cut it up and make the city yourself. be alot cheaper I would guess 1 Viceroy Bolda reacted to this
QuinnCee 40 Posted January 24, 2014 Ahh yes, like the an aerial battle over some Rebel ruins or something? That's sounds kind of cool. Somebody posted pics of the ground battle beginning with model AT-ATs and trailing ships. That seems like a really cool idea. Probably be kind of expensive if your actually looking to recreate a 3D landscape - would be cool as hell though.
GreatChewie 6 Posted January 24, 2014 Just grab some sand and make some dunes on a hardboard platen. And you have a epic fight on tatooine...
Rodent Mastermind 2,056 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Drop Zone Commander is the right scale and they do a 3D map box. http://www.hawkwargames.com/products/cityscape You can also get free downloads and print yourself. http://www.hawkwargames.com/pages/downloads Epic scenery is also the right size, but much harder to get hold of now Edited January 24, 2014 by Rodent Mastermind 1 QuinnCee reacted to this
Smilingknight 14 Posted January 24, 2014 Heavy Gear Blitz stuff is just about the same scale I think and they do some good desert housing terrain. And they have some free print out terrain on their website. http://dp9.com/downloads?qt-downloads_tabs=1&qt-downloads_heavy_gear_blitz_tabs=12#qt-downloads_heavy_gear_blitz_tabs and the buildings are the uban series on the bottom 1 QuinnCee reacted to this
QuinnCee 40 Posted January 24, 2014 Excellent links guys! I always love opportunities to add 3D elements to the map on the cheap.
Rodent Mastermind 2,056 Posted January 24, 2014 These might be of interest too http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~sf-papercraft/sf/at-at.html http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~sf-papercraft/sf/sand.html They also do an AT-ST but I can see that being too small to make at the right scale. 2 oneway and QuinnCee reacted to this
Dogwood2 99 Posted January 24, 2014 Drop Zone Commander is the right scale and they do a 3D map box. http://www.hawkwargames.com/products/cityscape You can also get free downloads and print yourself Dropzone Commander is 10mm scale, iirc. That's about 1:180, so roughly twice as big as the X-wing minis. That said, their buildings are fairly inexpensive and would probably work ok. The best size match that's available is 6mm or 1:285 scale, which is fairly popular for micro armor and giant robot games. I think that Battletech and Robotech Tactics both use this scale, which means you SHOULD be able to find reasonably priced SF themed terrain in this scale. There's also a lot of papercraft stuff available for free on the web, and it's very easy to shrink that down when you print it. 1 DagobahDave reacted to this
Rodent Mastermind 2,056 Posted January 24, 2014 Yeah I forgot Dropzone had upped the scale to 10mm.. There are a lot of decent Middle Eastern buildings in 6mm which would work great for a Tatooine board. 1 Viceroy Bolda reacted to this
DoubleNot7 768 Posted January 25, 2014 1/300 and 6mm will be your closest matches to xwings 1/270 scale. I have tons of Epic terrain that I use but you could use foam board constructsd buildings and ruins with a basic gray spray job.
Chris Maes 522 Posted January 25, 2014 Try looking into paper models. You can probably find something you can download, customize and print out onto card stock (heavy paper). I have a lot I use for Sci-Fi gaming in 1/300 scale and others I use for ACW gaming in 10-15mm scale. They are cheap and you can make as many as you want and color them as you like. JUst a suggestion. Chris 1 DagobahDave reacted to this
Quendil 41 Posted January 25, 2014 If you get some of the Epic Games (epic space marine would be best) it would work it is in 1:285 so it is about the same as 1:270 http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/24/29587_md-Copyright%20Games%20Workshop%2C%20Epic%2C%20Titan.jpg
Parravon 5,216 Posted January 28, 2014 The Dropzone printable buildings would work quite well for a good city scape. They are indeed in 10mm scale but when you print them, reduce the scale of the print to print a smaller version - easy. (Don't ask me how much to reduce them by though. I haven't done the math yet)

Rob Jedi 887 Posted January 28, 2014 10mm is about 1/160 scale so you want to print at 60% size

Khyros 4,218 Posted January 28, 2014 i didn't think Ties could fly in an atmospheric environment?? Yeah they can. I want to say that you saw some on a landing platform in RotJ, but I could be confusing it with some of the video games. But all throughout the EU (games, books) they fly in the atmosphere. Wookiepedia puts their max atmosphere speed at 1200kph. At least for the /LN
NotBatman 698 Posted January 28, 2014 i didn't think Ties could fly in an atmospheric environment?? They seemed to do well enough on Bespin in ESB. I know in some of the books they refer to them as being less maneuverable in atmosphere, but they can do it. 1 Viceroy Bolda reacted to this

QuinnCee 40 Posted January 28, 2014 Ya actually, come to think of it; Star Wars: Empire at War has space and ground engagements. When you go to ground with AT-ATs and such, you can call in TIE Bomber support and 2-3 TIE B's come streaking across the screen to lay down some bad news. Assuming of course that the ground fighting is atmospheric, but I'm thinking it is.
Khyros 4,218 Posted January 28, 2014 The X wing book series states that they're less maneuverable because the large wings generate quite a bit of wind resistance. The X wings make use of that by strafing sideways, and the TIEs can't keep up. Then hit the brakes / turn hard into them and blow them up.
Parravon 5,216 Posted January 28, 2014 10mm is about 1/160 scale so you want to print at 60% size Yep, just did them math, and Rob Jedi is absolutely correct. This will also make them suitable for Epic gaming as well as it's roughly 6mm scale.
