Force Weapons - Opposed WP Test

Recommended Posts

Sry for the newb question, but I am curious about Force weapons; one of my favorite varieties of cheese in 40K, and these games. The Force rule says, and I paraphrase: "Make an opposed Willpower test...For each Degree of Success, add 1d10 damage that ignores armor and/or Toughness."

So, the question is how do you calculate the DoS? Obviously, I know how the regular Degrees of Success are figured, but with opposed, I'm less certain. My WP is 47, and I roll a 24. The Ork Nob I am hoping to maim has a WP 30, and somehow lucked out on a 19. Do you just say "I got more DoS , so I win the roll, AND I got 3 DoS (one for passing, and two for 20 under the stat), or does the number of Degrees the Nob got counter some of my success? I could see the Warp helping, if not saving, some minions of Chaos, or an Ork, and saying that their DoS subtract from mine, so I still win, and still do some extra damage, but not as much as if they rolled worse. Which version might it be? Thanks.

From the FAQ portion of the errata:

Question: How does a character calculate his final Degrees

of Success on an Opposed Test?

Answer: A character’s final Degrees of Success are equal to the

Degrees of Success he scored on the Test he made, regardless

of how many Degrees of Success his opponent scored

Ah, found it. Thank you very much. Gotta say, this makes me a bit happier; considering their rarity, coupled with restrictions of use (the GM), it's good to see that Force weapons can pack a serious punch.

I have a cheesy character idea I made, and this is going to fit in nicely. The gist is that the NPC is an OX Inquisitor who specializes in fighting Orks. Being a Psyker, she makes use of a Force sword (probably not Nemesis, as that's unnecessary, but I have been known for cheese). The Orks remember her, sort of like Yarrick, and have heard her called "Inquisitor", but being Orks, that's far to long a word for them to say, and so the best their tongue can manage is "da' Quasit." This is cute, and my reasoning behind making it; it stems from D&D, where a Quasit is a little demon creature who fights with a stinger. She's small, by Orky standards, flits about, and stings (the Force weapon can floor decent foes). As for the name, a Quasit is the same but opposite creature of an Imp, and being Imperial, that also fits. She uses the power of the warp (daemon-like), so I really like how everything falls in with my silly little idea. If I actually get around to statting her, maybe I'll post it up, but I expect she will basically by the Black Crusade Inquisitor (one of my favorite write-ups), slightly tweaked fro originality.

Thanks for the help.
