ISD Inflexible Operating in the Corporate Sector

Rebel Craft Falls Into Imperial Hands; Re-education Begun

BONADAN - Working off an intelligence tip, Imperial forces operating from the Imperial Star Destroyer Inflexible force the surrender of a rebel corvette.

After a successful campaign in the Braxant Sector, where the Empire helped local civilians turn against rebel terrorists, the Imperial Star Destroyer Inflexible relocates to the Corporate Sector. Immediately upon arrival, locals are so enthusiastic about the Empire's forceful arrival in the sector after months of deadly skirmishes, that they give the intelligence operatives aboard the Inflexible knowledge of the location of a terrorist corvette.

Not expecting the Empire to move as forcefully as it did, the corvette was found lightly escorted. Once the escorts were eliminated, the Corvette surrendered.

"This is what happens when we do things by the book," Maj. Purvis, wing commander aboard the Inflexible informed reporters.

"So often we squads on the Rim -  and sometimes even closer to the core - operating outside the Naval order of battle," Maj. Purvis said, shaking his head. "Today we kept things strict. One flights of TIE/sa Bombers; another flight of TIE/ln fighters flying escort, and then one element of TIE Interceptors flying flank - just like the naval tactical handbook shows."

"Now that we're going back to the book, our pilots have high morale and they're successful! Under that traitor who led these pilots before, it was clear that the ship was not tight. Now we're doing things by the book, and the boys just know what to expect. There's really no secret to this success."

Eager to demonstrate their lately found loyalty to the Empire, the rebel prisoners have begun to disclose the whereabouts of other rebel element. Before even being treated for psychoses by IT-O Re-education droids, the detained rebels informed on their former compatriots. Acting swiftly, a flight of TIE Interceptors flew out to the indicated location and eliminated a band of rebel fighter craft.

"Our pilots tried to offer them the same deal as the other prisoners," Maj. Purvis said. "Unfortunately, they were much too fanatical to surrender as the more reasonable rebels did."

"It's sad, really," Maj. Purvis added. "Sad, but just.

Meanwhile, local inhabitants of the Corporate Sector have reacted disappointed to the news; hoping the Empire would summarily execute the rebel traitors for their disloyalty to the Emperor, but also for the terror campaign they waged in the Corporate Sector.

"Re-education's too good for them," area man said.

"The civilian is correct," ISB agent Thernstrom said, "but sometimes you just catch more kirik flies with Arkanian sweet milk than you do with acetic acid. Look what we were able to accomplish with this softer approach than the locals understandably demanded."

"Yes, re-education is too good for them, but we have to keep our eyes on the prize - being one big happy galaxy again. That's what the Emperor wants, and that's what the ISB strives for."

A brace of results from me...

GAME 1: We used the "Vidla Crucible" racing scenario for this one. 1st place: DagobahDave's Academy Pilot. 2nd Place: one of Mikael's TIEs. 3rd Place: Kelley's E-Wing.

SECTOR: Wyl

WINNER: Rebels

Saber Squadron Pilot + Push the Limit

BLACK SUN: Kelley

Blackmoon Squadron Pilot + R7 Astromech + Proton Torpedoes + Fire Control System

GAME #2: We played the "Den of Thieves" scenario with 150 points per side. It came down to the wire, with a great blocking move by one of Joseph's Interceptors foiling a last-minute attempt by Tim's YT-1300 to capture the last cargo container before it fled the battlefield. Though the Imperial ships won the scenario, DagobahDave (being a rebel sort of dude) scored this win for the Rebels.

It's a good thing that I wrote up last night's report of our battle. Clearly your captured rebel Corvette crew needs more 're-education'.

The Alliance battle group Rampart, consisting of the Nebulon -B frigate Rampart, two CR-90 Corvettes, a G-75 transport and its fighter wing were preceding to a designated rally point, when they were suddenly pulled out of Hyperspace by an Imperial Interdictor Cruiser.

“Phoenix Leader, we have incoming Eyeballs and Squints, accelerate to attack speed and hold them until we can clear the gravity well projectors arc!”

“Roger that!” replied Phoenix leader.  ‘S-foils in attack position, Punch it up we’ve got incoming!”

The two rookie pilots, Hawkeye and Zoe, called an affirmative while the lone Y-wing pilot Lieutenant Will charged his ion cannon.

Through the sparse asteroid debris Lt. Will made first contact, “Interceptors 12 o’clock level!”

“Roger that, Eyeballs flanking.” Replied Phoenix leader.

The bold Interceptor pilots came right up the middle, throwing green fire at the Y-wing quickly bringing down his shields, and took fire from the trio X-wings but expertly evaded the counter attack, but one suddenly jolted with electricity as the Ion cannon hit its mark.  It veered to avoid other attacks while his wingman pulled K-turn to hit the passing X-wings from behind.

Phoenix squadron stayed together as a pair of Tie Fighters charged into the fight.  Phoenix leader called out targets as Hawkeye made the first kill, one of the passing Tie fighters.

A desperate close range dogfight erupted pitting the agile Tie pilots against the heavier Rebel fighters. Battle chatter saturated the com-links, and then as quickly as it began the first round was over.  One Squint was destroyed and two Eyeballs.  Lt. Will in his Y-wing was badly shot up but still in the fight, Phoenix four’s shields were down and she had taken some damage.  Phoenix leader and Phoenix three were untouched so far.

“Okay they are regrouping, everybody come about and we’ll go after them again, we have to keep them occupied!” ordered Phoenix Leader.

The remaining Ties were still spoiling for a fight, the lone Squint accelerated and made some hits on Zoe’s fighter, and then exploded in a cloud of debris at the hands of Phoenix Leader’s guns.  But the Two Ties weren’t done, dodging through the X-wing’s fire they gave pursuit to Lt. Will who broke hard to the left trying to hide behind an asteroid.  The Tie pulled a K-turn and was waiting for him on the other side of the asteroid.  Green blaster fire was waiting for Lt. Will, and his fighter came apart under the barrage.  Hawkeye, true to his name, made another kill as Lt. Will’s killer jinked hard, out of Hawkeye’s line of fire and into Zoe’s, though crippled, her X-wing was more than able to finish the job.

“Phoenix squadron, this is Rampart. . . we are clear of the gravity wells.  Get outta there and regroup at rally point Tau-Omicron.”

‘Roger that. . . let’s get outta here before the rest of the Ties get here.” Called Phoenix leader.

Stars turned to starlines, and Phoenix squadron was away.

PHASE 11 BEGINS

Black Sun has lost control of the Braxant Sector, but no clear victor has emerged there and Prince Xizor's ragtag army refuses to go away quietly. [Achievement: Black Sun's Crime Syndicate achievement has awarded it with 1 faction win in the Atrivis and Arkanis Sectors, and the Rebels' Hidden Base.]

Bothan Space has been secured by the Empire, and its network of spies has been squeezed for valuable information. [Achievement: Bothan Spies indicate that the Rebels have just 1 net win in the Perlemian Systems, and Black Sun has no wins there.] Imperial victories in the Corporate Sector have brought this region of the galaxy back in line, and rebels in the Auril Sector have been routed. The Imperial high command is confident that it will soon be celebrating the end of the insurgency.

In spite of their losses elsewhere, Rebel forces in the Abrion, Brak and Wyl Sectors have united their systems under the protection of the Alliance. [Achievement: With the Brak, Elrood and Kessel Sectors under Rebel control, the Alliance has swayed the Mining Guild to support its cause.]

HoloNet News (HNN) Exclusive:

Skirmishes on the Outer Rim Demonstrate Empire's Resolve to Bring Stability to the Entire Galaxy

OSLUMPEX - Having secured the Corporate Sector for the Empire, the fighting forces of the Imperial Navy attempt to return stability to the Wyl Sector. Tragically, terrorist elements and natives are recalcitrant in their objection to civilization.

"Some people just don't get it," Maj. Purvis, wing commander aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Inflexible told HNN reporters. "No matter how much you try to help them out, they just can't see the light of the core from the forgotten corner of the galaxy that they find themselves in. It's tragic that pilots have to die in order to bring it to them."

The Wyl Sector is indeed a nearly-forgotten hindquarter of space. With its most salient feature being the Shaltiin Tunnels hyperroute that connects the Oslumpex to Zygerria (both in neighboring sectors), Imperial navigators rightfully call the Wyl Sector 'hype-through country'.

"Tragic, yes. Worthless, no!" ISB agent Thernstrom added to Purvis' analysis. "Even if these natives are backward, the Emperor's wisdom is such that the ... nerfs should be forced to drink at the trough, even if they're too dumb to know how to drink."

Demonstrating both metaphorical poetry as well as subtle strategic thinking, the ISB lends voice to the Emperor's just cause of uniting the galaxy and stamping out nihilism and lawlessness on the Outer Rim.

P.S. Dave, I'm a bit confused on the maps. The last two maps both say Phase 10. (I do download them and compare - even if I'm not particularly strategic about how I choose which sectors to fight for, not have I tried to understand the rules of the galactic game.)

The map on the front page is accurate, except that I need change "Phase 10" to "Phase 11" and change the dates. I'll fix that today.

Yay the Inflexible is back!

Yeah, I've been teaching at the academy, and have had too little time or energy for much rebellion crushing.

But just wait. HNN SHALL BE reporting on a grand epic battle in a few days.

Won't it, Dave?

HoloNet News (HNN) Exclusive:

Deplorable and Condemnable Rebel Tactics EXPOSED!!

Decive Strategic Defeat for the Rebellion along the Perlemian Trade Route!

LANTILLIES - The Rebellion is exposed for what it is, a traitorous terrorist organization with no regard for human life or civilized decency. (Of course, informed consumers of HNN reports were already aware of this.)

During a regular customs enforcement exercise, assisting local civilian authorities, a transport accompanied by a rebel privateer is found carrying illegal weapons and computer slicing equipment is destroyed by Imperial Forces. During its attempted escape, the transport was destroyed. The cargo was later found to contain both illegal slicing equipment as well as children's toys (of the integrated brick system variety) laced with biological contaminants, bound for the Imperial core - doubtlessly intended to be put into the hands of human children on civilized systems from Coruscant to Corellia.

"Some days you just can't believe it anymore," Maj. Purvis, wing commander aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Inflexible told embedded HNN reporters. "One moment they're trying to undermine law and order in space, and the next they're going after defenseless children. I'm so proud to be serving the Empire in this fight, but sometimes you just can't fathom how ... just plain evil the rebellion is. It's clear that while many of those deluded souls fighting for the Empire are other humans, their tactics are inhuman and clearly of alien origin."

"I mean, what human would do such a thing?"

"Aliens indeed," ISB Special Agent Thornstrom added. "These creatures do not have any sense of decency the way that humans do. Human decency is the product of civilization and the desire for a peaceful and stable galaxy. Aliens see things differently. For them it's all about their species trying to take the wealth and good paying jobs from our human population. They're not content with their expansive territories on the Outer Rim. Now they're coming for what we've built, and if they have to kill humans children, they figure all the better."

"You should have seen the alien contaminants aboard those juvenile recreational aids."

"Toys?" HNN asked.

"Yes, toys," Agent Thernstrom clarified. "They were laced with probably deadly alien microbes. From the Alien's perspective, the only good human children are dead or contaminated and infectious human children. That's just how those Outer Rim bugs think."

Regrettably the privateering vessel was able to depart the sector before Imperial forces were able to apprehend it. However, the clear fact of this matter - as first brought to you by embedded HNN reporters - has local authorities aghast and willing to provide the Empire with more volunteers and recruits for the military forces of the Empire.

"Send them to the Naval Academy of Prefsbelt," Maj. Purvis suggested the authorities send their eager young men looking to defend their homes, lives and children from this barbarism. "That's the quickest way to get out here in the front line. In fact, pilots from our academy even participated in this exposure of depraved enemy tactics. If you want to put a halt to these potential atrocities, join the Imperial Navy as a TIE Pilot!"

Thanks for the report! I had a blast playing in that one. :) Go Rebels Imperials!

I'm glad you had a good time. It was totally worth the ... 7? hours we spent fighting those 300 points without a break or even dinner. (Good thing there were pretzels, chips and salsa.)

It'll be even more epic once we get an Imperial huge (or two). That way it might not take quite as long as this did.

Still, why did take so long? I felt we went pretty quickly with everything.

I gather that most Epic games take several hours, but that felt like a marathon. I think the long play time was the perfect storm of my bad flying and two-waves attack plan that turned out to be more like a trickle, the dense asteroid field, ions, and a general difficulty to find opportunities to concentrate fire. One ship would get destroyed here or there, but we didn't have any rounds where a lot of stuff just got wiped out.

Casual game. My Rebel list was designed to try out some abilities that I never use -- Anti-Pursuit Lasers and ion weapons. It didn't work out that well, but it wasn't meant to. The APLs only came into play once, and didn't do any damage. The ion turrets were a little more effective, paralyzing the Interceptor and making it easy to kill. The Phantom went down late in the game, leaving one damaged Outer Rim Smuggler chasing the Bounty Hunter with no real hope of success.

THE EMPIRE IS VICTORIOUS!

An age of strife comes to an explosive end. Desperate Rebel forces managed to destroy the mighty Death Star, only to be traced back to their hidden base on Hoth, where they were crushed. Scattered and defeated, and being turned in to Imperial authorities by sympathizers across the galaxy, the Rebel Alliance is no more. The last remnants of the Old Republic and the Jedi Order have been vanquished. As for Black Sun, the Empire has already dismantled their criminal rings on hundreds of systems, and it is a matter of time before their kind slinks back into the underworld where they belong. We now look forward to a glorious age of peace and prosperity under the rule of the Emperor. All Hail Palpatine!

[season 1 of the Unofficial X-Wing Galactic Campaign is complete! Thanks to everyone who participated, and good luck to you in the next campaign, which will be starting again soon.]

Haven't sifted through all the battle reports yet, but my friends and I enjoy playing objective based games.

Do you only take the dogfight matches for the official battle?

Also, great job mate.

The current season only allows standard dogfights, but it should be finished in the next month or two. For the next season, we'll use a new map and allow a greater variety of scenarios and match-ups, especially since Scum should be available around the time season 3 begins.
