Descent 2nd Ed. tile quality and durability

9 posts in this topic

Hi there everybody!

I am interested in buying Descent 2nd Ed. but the one thing that keeps me from doing so si whether or not the tiles were of great quality and durability. I know from reading the forums on Descent 1st Ed. that some people experienced issues with the tiles maybe tearing, fraying or beginning to peel, but I was wondering if anyone who owns the new edition could please enlighten me as to the quality and durability of the new tiles. Also, would it be possible if someone who has had any issues with the tiles from their set(s), could they chime in as well. This is something that will definitely determine if I am going to purchase this game, as it is something I'm extremely interested in and when it comes to my games I tend to be very anal retentive and strive to keep them perfect so that they last a long time, and damage to tiles will just completely turn me off.

Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The tiles are of good quality, its a bit early days yet to see how long they will last. If they get wet hiwever the sheets of cardboard will come apart, thus has happened to one of my tresure search room tokens >_<

I probably haven't put as much time in as some people here, but I haven't noticed any issues. If you're careful with them, I imagine they'll last a good long while.

The issue with D1E tiles was that the jigsaw cut that form the connector between two tiles was really tight.  If you weren't careful when assembling/dissembling, it could cause fraying or tearing around the jigsaw bit.  That said, I never had any issues with such myself.  I bought into D1E maybe within a year of its release, played it quite often, and I was always careful to disconnect tiles with my thumbs on the prongs.  To this day there isn't the slightest sign of wear on them.

D2E tiles are approximately the same, I would say.  Maybe not quite as tight, but still snug.  I would venture to say that as long as you're careful while putting tiles together or taking them apart, you shouldn't face any problems like that.  When I say "careful" I don't mean that you need to walk on eggshells, btw.  Reasonable caution should suffice.  The fact that this concern alone has kept you from buying tells me you're probably not the sort of person who would have issues.

Sorry about the late reply.  I was just waiting to see if anymore people would wade into the topic. I want to say thankyou to all of you who replied to my post, especially Steve-O with his detailed answer, as this has enabled me to be able to go forward and decide to purchase the game sometime soon hopefully.

All the best

Game is great! All the components are top notch! Only thing missing from the sets are Lieutenant figures, they give you a token instead. But you can buy the Lieutenants seperately and they include more cards and extra game stuff. I have the base game on of the expansions and one of the lieutenants and its all really good.
