More Unique TIE Fighter Pilots?

37 posts in this topic

With the release of the transport, rebels will have a respectable number of 8 named X-Wing pilots. So is there any chance to get additional TIE Fighter pilots?

Like Juno Eclipse, Villian Dance, Lt. Tanbris (im not sure if he was still a pilot at the battle of Yavin4) or even Maarek Stele.

Yes, yes - we get 4 new Interceptor pilots as well. But what about the eyeball?

I like the idea. The way FFG is releasing new stuff they likely do a new expansion pack, possibly with a repainted model? that would be cool.

I am actually finding that in our playgroup Black Squadron Pilots are getting used alot. I fought against a few with VI and they were a real pain, 6PS is annoying as hell on a ship that agile.

I'm going to say no, mostly because 6 seems to be a good number and I think the Imperial faction should retain that feeling of being 'faceless'. With the rebels, you kind of want to have named guys in there for that personal down to earth feel.

I agree.  Tie Fighters were just numbers the fact that Interceptors are getting the named pilots is a really good thing. Makes them feel more like a more elite craft than some generic imperial starfighter.  Also helps them get back into the meta in the face of the YT

I think six is good, the only other fighters with more than two will be the Interceptor and X-Wing.  Frankly, I'd like to see more generic options, particularly for support roles.  Right now the only way to mechanically affect a friendly ship without using a unique card is Swarm Tactics on a Black Squadron TIE Fighter, Green Squadron A-Wing, or Saber Squadron TIE Interceptor

I am always in favor of new named pilots, and I am sure we will eventually get new named TIE Pilots, HOWEVER...

Currently there are more named TIE Pilots than any other ships, and they are ALL good. I haven't looked a single TIE Pilot and thought, "Nah, I don't think I would ever use him" Partially because they are do cheap. Howerunner, at 18 points is the most expensive and she costs about the same or less than most other ships cheapest skill 1 or 2 pilot.

Other than the TIE I really only like about 50% of the named pilots for every other ship. (X-wing is the other exception; I like all three.)

TIE fighter pilots that could be added: Major Mianda (Scythe 1), Lt. Hebsly (Scythe 3), and Scythe Squadron Pilot from ROTJ.

That would then give us a TIE squadron unique to each movie. That's as far as I'd like to see them go with named TIE/ln pilots though.

X-wing has four. So you clearly don't like one of them :P.

Personally I would love more ships but it seems to me most imps that get to the "unique" level would be moved to better craft in-universe.

Forgot about Garven, sorry. I guess I have to confess I have never flown him. His ability doesn't seem that bad, but compared to the Wedge, Luke, and Biggs, it hasn't really made the cut. I return to my point about how dang cheap all those TIE Pilots are, it means that even if their abilities aren't stellar, you still want to take them because they don't cost you that much.

That's assuming some level of efficiency on part of the Imperial Navy. If the Empire is anything like our own military... well, let's just say that not everyone goes where they belong or gets what they deserve. And proper equipment management? Forget about it.

Garven Dreis is very solid. Ive started using him and his ability to pass a free focus is very good. Try it. For 26pts thats not bad.

Garven works best of course with pilots who can use the Focus in conjunction with another ability, or bouncing them around to craft with equal or lesser pilot skill. Him and "Dutch" are a really super solid combo when paired with nearly any other ship, especially a Moldy Crow HWK with a turret.

I want to have an additional PS7 + EPT pilot, which can be paired up with Mauler Mithel.

1 PS8 or PS6 pilot.

2 additional PS5 pilots would be nice, too.

id just like to see different pilot abilities - many of the current ones r offensive eg. mauler, backstabber, winged gundark. Curse is the most defensive. Night beast is interesting free focus is more inline with rebels.

i guess the theme here is lack of synergy with Howrunner the only exception.

what about a mini howrunner that gives rerolls only to a specific PS ship? could lead to interesting squads. it would let u split into wings - one with howlrunner.

For me the greatest issue is different PS values within a formation. I like the box formation with 4 fighters and thats the reason why I like to have 2 additional PS5 pilots.

For the PS7 or PS6 pilot an additional support/synergy ability would be nice. Just like you have suggested. Maybe it let you reroll 2 dice of a single ship in range 1-2.

While Howlrunner remains the 'Big Wing' supporter, we would get a small wing supporter as well.

I wouldn't mind seeing some RGTs (Royal Guard TIE Fighters).

PS 5 with built-in "Draw Their Fire" AND an EPT slot.

Unique's the following abilities plus RGT - generic I mentioned above.

  1. ACTION: (see Bigg's ability).
  2. At the start of the Combat phase: "Transfer 1 Enemy Target Lock to This Ship from a Friendly ship within Range 1."

I would also put the 2.ability on 3 Pilots with different names so it would become a "Unique x3"

Why RGT's? I don't associate Squints (Interceptors) as the "defensive / escort" type. That's the standard TIE's job.

Yes Please!

And this is not tie fighter specific; all of them can use a few more uniques. I think it's also a great place for multi craft pilots to show or to have "de-evolved" pilots to represent them earlier in their career (works especially well for Imperials).

The other thing that I would like to see eventually is a unique for each ship at each PS level. Ties have a bunch already but a PS1 academy with a name is just plain fun from the fluff perspective.

But What about other ships

TIE Advanced - 2 named pilots  - only one that is very good

TIE Bomber - 2 named pilots

Firespray - 3 named pilots

YT-1300 - 3 named pilots

Y-Wing - 2 named pilots

B-wing - 2 named pilots

B-wing - 2 named pilots

Don't we want some more pilots for some of these ships before we get more TIEs?

I would love to see a "Rogues of the Galaxy"/"Trampfreighters" set gor the YT-1300, there are SO many named and modified YTs and YT pilots out there... Create half a dozen new pilots from the  EU (there are a lot of them named out there) Give them a variety of stats between the ORS and Falcon, some titles representing some of the cool special YT mods out there.. Would be awesome. Do the Falcon with a factory paint scheme.

How about...

Juno Eclipse

Tie Fighter Pilot [cost 17pts]

PS 7

Elite Pilot Talent

At the start of the activation phase select on friendly ship at range 1-2. Juno Eclipse may copy the pilot ability of that ship. (The target ship must be a tie-fighter and PS5 or PS6 pilot abilities may be copied).

Dark Curse, Backstabber, Night Beast and Winged Gundark get a potential doppleganger effect.

What is cool is the ability can change throughout the battle :)

A tie-fighter pilot that passes damage to other friendly ships would be cool. Sort of a reverse Draw Their Fire where u can choose a ship at range one and give that ship damage (could be limited to crits or normal damage).

How about if a single crit would be reflected back on the attacker, then get a stress token. Of course you must be stress-free in doing so.
