Ferretz 12 Posted December 27, 2013 Getting back to Rogue Trader after a long break from. We're going to use the rules for ground wars this time around. So, armour for ground units... is this a mistake? For I can't see it being mentioned in the errata. Armour equals BASE Power Level x2? So a unit of primitive light tanks will have the same armour as a unit of modern heavy tanks (for example Baneblades). Surely, what it should say is that the MODIFIED Power Level x 2 is the armour? Any thoughts on this? (Yes, I know there are other issues with the rules for ground wars, but the armour is what irritates me, especially when it is confirmed in the example too...) E. Sebastian Yorke 191 Posted December 27, 2013 The power level should be a lot different because of the different Technological levels, I think there is a table/side box there for it. I need to check though.
Ferretz 12 Posted December 27, 2013 But the rules says that the Armour of a unit is based on the "base power level", which is not modified for Tech Level or how heavy the unit is, if I understand what the text says right. So, using the rules as written, lets compare two types of unit: Baneblades (Imperial Guard Super-heavy Battle Tank): Modern Heavy Armour Power Level 7 (Attack: 4d10+12, Armour: 14) Sentinel Walker (Imperial Guard Light Walker) Modern Light Armour Power Level 7 (Attack: 4d10-3, Armour: 14) Now, shouldn't the Baneblade have Armour 22 and the Sentinel have Armour 8 instead? (Power modified by tech and weight before being multiplied by 2 to calculate Armour? Eirik
Nameless2all 210 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) The one they have for an example is wrong. Let me explain: The 3rd Vaxanide Grenadiers are heavy infantry with 1,500 guardsmen. Let's break it down by what the rules say. Unit Str: 150 (10% of 1,500) Morale: 80 Power: Base is 4, hvy +2, tech +1 = New base 7. Attack is 4d10+7. Armour is 8 (your idea of base x2, our idea is new base x2 so it would be 14) Movement: Base 20 km Obviously what they have listed in the book is its base being 6, for 4d10+6, armour 12. ... Even if they went off the base infantry stats, it would 4x2 =8, not 12. Edited December 27, 2013 by Nameless2all
Ferretz 12 Posted December 27, 2013 Ok, so we all agree that Armour should be based off the Power after its modified by weight and tech? That makes much more sense. -Eirik
Nameless2all 210 Posted December 27, 2013 Correct. The ground rules section was written by a 3rd grader, so please bear with it. 1 Ferretz reacted to this
