Fgdsfg 1,017 Posted December 13, 2013 I am at a bit of a loss as to how the rules by RAW would work in this situation.Basically, I'm designing an Astropath Transcendent that starts as a Transubstantial Initiate and intend to take the Order of the Hammer Initiate Alternate Career Rank from Faith and Coin at Rank 2.But I'm not sure how to resolve buying "lost advancements" from my lost Rank 2 Astropath Rank, specifically, Psychic Techniques. Because the listed costs for advancements in relation to Psychic Techniques are not the actual cost of the advancement, but the cost limit of the Technique you choose - i.e. if it says Psychic Technique (200xp), the most expensive technique you can learn can cost no more than 200xp.There are several ways this could be interpreted when it comes to Elite Advancements by the rules for taking lost Ranks, but all I can think of has severe issues.Anyone know how this is supposed to be resolved? Am I just missing a line of text somewhere explaining this? I searched extensively, but couldn't find it even discussed before. It was an issue that immediately cropped up for me so I feel like a bit of an idiot. Am I the only one missing something here?
WilliamAsher 82 Posted December 13, 2013 The most important part of Elite Advances is that the GM sets the cost and availability. As a GM, I allow the player to take them as long as they make sense. Psychic Techniques are pretty much allways allowed (for psykers), and cost twice their nomal cost as Elite advances. Most psykers in my games buy extra powers, so this isn't an uncommon situation. I base the limit on what power you could learn as a Astropath of your rank. (ie, if rank 2 would have limited you to 200xp, then powers that normally cost 200xp or less)
Angel of Death 126 Posted December 22, 2013 I can say in our DH game, where this has popped up a few times the GM has stated that they other lvl advances are available at the the price of 50+Either Skill or Talent cost. Now for Elite Advances (that not part of your normal skill set) that has been, GM has assigned cost for us to pay. Why my Squat Guardman has Trade Armourer. Magellan 185 Posted December 23, 2013 Into the Storm suggests that players be allowed to buy missed career advances at twice the original cost. I would have the player select a power up to the original cost of the advance, then pay double that. 1 Kshatriya reacted to this
Wincent 44 Posted December 23, 2013 In case of doubts I always look at the role playing of particular character. How much afford and time in game s/he is spending on getting this advance?
