Trollfens Three Heads, One Mind rules clarification.

7 posts in this topic

Hello all

I have been reading the encounter rules before the next games night and I'm unclear with the rules to this encounter.

"If Chikee is defeated while not on the map place the rusty key on the marsh"

How can Chikee be defeated if he's not on the map?

"As an action while on the map, Chikee may be removed from the map"

So does that mean the heroes have only got 4 chances to attack Chikee ( one for each trinket) before he is removed off the board again.

the first thing that comes to my mind is if she's suffering from any condition that chips away at her health, like disease or poison. Or possibly burning if you rule she can't take an action to stop burnign while off the map.

Can't answer your second question as I don't have my Trollfens quest guide at hand, sorry.

If Chikree has something like Poison/Disease/Burning and she takes the last damage when she's flying (off the map)

So does that mean the heroes have only got 4 chances to attack Chikee ( one for each trinket) before he is removed off the board again.

That's the way we played it.  Granted it never happened as the heroes promptly blew her up as soon as she was forced to land.

Right thanks for that. And two quick replys!!

Just a thought.

Would it be in the overlords interest to attack Chikree with a zombie for example to slowly kill him while off the map.

Therefore the rusty key would end up away from the exit.

Also Im guessing this encounter is harder for two heroes than four.

I played it with 2 heroes.

For 2 heroes, since Chikree attacks each time the heroes remove one of the 4 trinkets, it can be hard to kill her later in the encounter unless you have a healer: the person who flips it over might die, leaving only the other to attack.  The overlord can use minion harpies early to get heroes damaged enough to put them in this situation.  So having Chikree alive is useful for the overlord: more free attacks for each time the heroes have to remove a trinket.

With 2 heroes it can also be hard to run down the master ettin: if both heroes chase from the same direction they may have trouble getting off attacks if the master ettin takes 2 move actions each turn.  If the heroes split up in an attempt to corner the master ettin they have to be careful that one hero isn't picked off by concentrated attacks and isolated from the other hero.  If the overlord can manage to stall and run long enough the overlord can win.

Our game resulted in victory for the heroes because while running away the master ettin saw a chance to knock out a nearly defeated hero and took it, but missed, leaving the master ettin almost adjacent to an alive hero who could then attack twice.  If you're the overlord in a 2-hero game just run, run, run with the master ettin.  Otherwise one miss and you'll be quite vulnerable.

Sorry, monsters cannot attack each other, though I like that idea!

My heroes won this quest really easily because I gave her the key and not "Big 'n Stupid". But I have to say it was one of the more fun.

By RAW, a monster must declare a space containing a hero as the target of any attack it makes.  (Tokens treated as heroes do count for this purpose, such as familiars and allies.)

So the only way to get Chikree with a monster attack would be to use an AoE attack on a hero standing close enough to Chikree that she could be included in the blast.  Zombies wouldn't do it, but keep thinking!
