CaptainStabby 98 Posted November 19, 2013 And it may have been covered previously but I did a quick look and couldnt find it.Ok, so in the core book, under the Flame weapon property it says you make a straight Agility check to avoid being hit, then another one to avoid being caught on fire. Cool, makes sense. But then under Dodging Auto Fire/Area Effects it says that a successful dodge test moves you up to your agility bonus to get out of the area of effect. So... Is the order of operation here Declare Flamer shot Defender rolls dodge (assuming they have the skill) and moves Agil bonus. If that moves them out of the AoE they dont get hit. Assuming they are still in the AoE do they then get to make the agility test to avoid getting hit? Am I thinking through that right?
Magellan 185 Posted November 20, 2013 No, the Agility test from flame weapons is free and is not a dodge roll (you don't get bonuses from having +20 dodge, for example), and so you don't actually move out of the cone if successful, if I remember the wording correctly. CaptainStabby 98 Posted November 20, 2013 There are 2 sections covering flame weapons. The "Flame" weapon quality and the section in combat that covers area attack and template attacks and specifically uses a Flamer as it's example. Im trying to clarify how those rules play with one another because as I noted they are.. different. One is specifically an agility test, the other is specifically a Dodge roll that moves the target out of the AoE.

You first Dodge to get out of the AoE, as long as you are not so fully engulfed that you cannot move out of the Area of Effect; your Agility Bonus in m2 is the distance you can move in this manner, provided you succeed your Dodge. If you fail to Dodge or cannot move the distance, you roll Agility to see if the flamer hit you or not. If you got hit and took damage, you then roll Agility to see if you caught fire. If I remember everything correctly.
CaptainStabby 98 Posted November 20, 2013 Ok, that's what I thought. I just kept mashing up the two rules in my head. Cheers sir!
WilliamAsher 82 Posted November 21, 2013 The use of Nephilim Flamer Fuel and Cleanse and Purify talent makes this even more fun. A -40 to your test means that even Eldar make good candles. 1 Fgdsfg reacted to this
