DagobahDave 1,621 Posted November 16, 2013 What is the surface texture like?
TallTonyB 1,210 Posted November 16, 2013 I really like mine, it has just enough texture to keep stuff from moving around and it looks great, however.... I have started to notice a lot of scratches in it already and I haven't even had it that terribly long.
Rain King 32 Posted November 16, 2013 I have the one with the nebula print. When you run your finger across it you can feel a slight texture. I think it helps a little with traction. It will pick up some scratches if you push too hard while sliding things around on it, but overall I like it.
Goregrimm 26 Posted November 16, 2013 I have noticed mine has scratches as well. I have played on it twice. Kind of disappointing but it is beautiful and really adds an extra depth of immersion, I think.
ForceM 1,456 Posted November 16, 2013 I own the one with the starfield. And same thing here. It offers a bit of grip to the bases but not a lot, and mine has a lot of scratches even though i am quite cautious with it!
Rendorin 4 Posted November 16, 2013 Surface has a slight texture which as stated above aids with traction cannot say I have noticed any scatches at present, still time though I guess! However, I have to say that I like them that much that I now have three (all less the Death Star mat) for a bit of variety in my playing fields..... DagobahDave 1,621 Posted November 17, 2013 Thanks for that. I've been waiting two months for my mat order from GF9 and have been ordering my own game mats printed up on vinyl signage material in the meantime. Sounds like the vinyl signage is as good as any GF9 mat. Different, but just as good.
AllDeadDave 116 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) Depending on your storage needs (and the amount of spray paint you have), you can always create your own board. Edited November 17, 2013 by AllDeadDave
SteveSpikes 77 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) The game mats from Gale Force Nine are made from a high-quality thick vinyl. It comes rolled in a plastic tube. If you're worried about the mat being unable to be flat for game play, don't be. It may be curled around the corners, but that's easily taken care of. CrookedWookie 1,258 Posted November 18, 2013 Just make sure you roll them back up art side out. I tried to be clever and roll them white side out to protect from sun fading or whatever, and then they do NOT lie flat. Otherwise though, they lay nice and flat and have a nice slightly grippy, rubberized feel.
