Semi- or full- auto with a pistol in melee

Recommended Posts

If I understand correctly, when I am in melee with an enemy I can only shoot him with a pistol.

But can I semi-burst (or full-burst) him in melee, if my pistol has these options?

I seem to remember you could only single shot in melee...

I did look in the rulebook, but i also cannot find anything about that. We played a lot of Dark Heresy, and i remember back then we were only allowed single shots in melee with pistols.

But i can't seem to find this rule in Rogue Trader, that's why I'm asking the forums.

Thanks for the help!

There was indeed an official ruling limiting pistols to single-shots only in melee.

This was a rules question answered by the devs, and posted to all current boards (at the time, DH, RT, DW and BC).

This rule was changed with Only War, where it is quite explicit that you CAN use any fire mode in melee, and in the DH 2 Beta this was also possible.

Personally I would allow it, but I'd also change the general combat actions and their modifiers to the ones used in BC and OW. Otherwise ranger attacks in melee become too powerful compared to the melee equivalents.

so, as of today, the OFFICIAL ruling is that, indeed, you can only shoot single shots with a pistol in melee in a Rogue Trader game?

The general consensus seems to be that allowing pistols to be shot on semi or full auto in melee is very unbalancing UNLESS you switch over to ethe BC/OW mechanics (or otherwise remove the accuracy benefits for those firing modes).

I agree with General Consensus here :)
