Using "Nemesis"

9 posts in this topic

Hey guys,

I was wondering if it was possible to combine the use of Nemesis and Impossible weapons instead of with "regular" Ki.

Most requirements list "Aura Extension" which is a "regular" Ki ability, but Nemesis has mirrored abilities under a different name, so I'm a little bit confused about it.

Have always agreed with your sentiment. There are Ki abilities that have no Nemesis replacement, but it shouldn't be too hard to convert over, if you wanted. If you need any help on it, feel free to PM me the Impossible Weapons you wish to use, and I will see what I can do.

As far as I know, there isn't an actual ruling on this, however, given that Aura Extension is required so that the person controls the weapon with their ki, by extending it into their weapon. Emptiness Extrusion, for example, doesn't really do exactly the same thing (though the similarities rulewise are there), so there isn't an exact translation. However, you can make a case that they're similar enough to allow for the weapons to be used. So if there is a direct opposite in Nemesis, I'd say house rule it one way or another that the person is allowed to use the impossible weapon. However, I wouldn't start inventing Nemesis abilities that are just Nemesis version of Ki Abilities. The whole point of it being there is to be the antithesis, not just a darker version of Ki. A lot of its abilities are fundamentally different from Ki. They're not aimed purely at being damaging, they're aimed at being debilitating and weakening powers.

As with a lot of things in Anima, however, you can just decide as a GM to allow something or not, just based on logical reasoning. Despite the abundance of rules, the system has enough flexibility to allow this.

Found something that Elric posted back with his Specialist Classes. This should be what you are looking for:

Use of Nemesis corresponds to Use of Ki and Ki Control.

Void Armor corresponds to Energy Armor, Energy Absorption, and Physical Shield.

Noht corresponds to Major Energy Armor and Arcane Energy Armor.

Void Extrusion corresponds to Ki Transmission, Ki Abilities Depending from it, Presence Extrusion, Ki Destruction, Aura

Extension, Incremented Damage, Incremented Speed, Incremented Reach, Elemental Attack. Also Void Extrusion affects as

well weapons held by this character.

Void Body corresponds to Physical Dominion.

No Necessities corresponds to Use of Necessary Energy, Elimination of Penalties and all Ki Abilities depending from it.

Void Movement corresponds to Weight Elimination and all Ki Abilities depending from it.

Void Shape corresponds to Body Multiplication and all Ki Abilities depending from it.

Void Essence corresponds to Elimination of Penalties and Ki Abilities depending from it.

One With Nothing corresponds to Age Control, Physical Change. and Major Physical Change.

Void Aura corresponds to Combat Aura.

Undetectable corresponds to Ki Occultation and Ki Detection and Ki Abilities depending from them.

I just budge in to write that in my "Specialist Classes System" only the Nemesician Class (which is a specialization of the Technician) is allowed to use nemesis abilities instead of ki abilities as prerequisites for Magnus/Martial Arts.

Nevertheless if you feel like allowing such stuff for any character feel free to use that list as reference. I'd be more than happy to know that my ideas are useful to players out there!

I would have to rule no.... Mainly becuase of the principle of Nemisis vs Ki. There is something that allows one or the other and that is the advanced martial art Suyunta. I would rule that it would have to state they are interchangable in place of what you want only if it says they can (This of course can be overruled by any GM as they wish, this is just my opinion on the matter). The only place i could see it being viable is the requirement of inhumanity and Zen, as they focus less on the use of power rather than on your ability to perform inhuman or zen actions. Becuase Ki is energy of your soul controling magnificent weapons is understandable as your energy is flowing through it, but with nemesis you are pushing emptiness, the lack of anything, into your weapon. To me that doesn't sound viable....

Your reasoning is OK, that's why I only allow this to a specific class that trains hard to make through emptiness what others make through soul.

Anyway, re-reading my rules I noticed an error. Here is the Errata:

No Necessities corresponds to: Use of Necessary Energy, Elimination of NECESSITIES (and not Penalties) and Ki Abilities depending from it.

Sorry If I am grave posting but it is important to remember that the GM is the final arbiter in anything that pretains to his/her game. The books are truely less of rules and more of a guidline when playing the game as far as any GM is concerned. Nothing is completely set in stone. If it was games like this would not be fun. And what is the point of playing something that no longer entertains you? If the GM rules that you can do something by all means go ahead. It is the GMs responsibility to maintain balance in his/her campaign not the players.
