Moore1980 233 Posted September 26, 2013 So, some months ago I posted an "anyone from Northern Illinois" tread in the organized play thread. I got literally zero hits. But, while looking at the other thread posts on this site and that of Board Game Geek, it almost seems as though Illinois isn't even on the map. Not that I don't enjoy chatting and discussing the game with you all, but that doesn't really help me get any games in.

Eruletho 544 Posted September 27, 2013 I feel your pain, not only does my little town not have a gaming community, gut the closest city is about an hour away and IT doesn't have an X-wing community...
Bjorn Rockfist 525 Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) In Western KY we have a small group, and we'd love to find some tourneys or something. Edited September 27, 2013 by Bjorn Rockfist
TheKestrel 63 Posted September 27, 2013 I find this hard to believe. I spend most of my teenage years practically living in a game store in Illinois, just one of 3 that were within driving distance. And GenCon in close proximity, etc... I haven't lived there in years but my general sense is still that IL and basically all of the midwest are much more active centers for any kind of gaming. Gungo 191 Posted September 27, 2013 Chances are if you are able to buy xwing in a store by you. Chances are someone is buying them too!

hothie 1,719 Posted September 27, 2013 Chicago has a very strong group of players as well. As for hotbeds, I'd say the Chicago area, Milwaukee/Madison area for sure, Virginia has a big group, and actually Omaha has a very steady crowd that plays there, biggest Kessel Run that I knew of. There are lots of local groups that play. posting here and other sites are good ways to find players.
Moore1980 233 Posted September 27, 2013 Well thanks for all the replies gents. First, yes there is a gaming store in my town. It's called New Game In Town. Yes, they do sell some X-wing items . I'v purchased a few and some other people have. So, that leads me to believe that there is others in the town that play. Second, to answer that what town I'm in question. I'm in De Kalb, about 60 miles west of Chicago.. and nearly 3 hours north of Peoria. I have also been giving some thought to "demoing" as it were at the shop just in the hopes to increase the potential player base.
ryan.krippendorf 131 Posted September 27, 2013 I just started a group at my lgs even tho there are other stores where x-wing is played. My biggest problem was the day of the week it was on and it is a little bit further than I'd care to drive. So I contacted a store that was closer. It took me about a month and two events to get a solid group together. But it can be done.
Enigma5915 0 Posted September 27, 2013 If you can't find a community of players, then it's time to create one. Get 2 starters and play with friends and try to run demos at local game stores or anyplace that sells the product. People are likely to get excited about a product when they see other people having fun with it. And then you start demonstrating and so on and so forth. Galactic Funk 831 Posted September 27, 2013 Well depending on how desperate you are we are doing 100 point lists tonight in Janesville, WI at Kryptonite Kollectibles. Our group that has played SWM there on Friday nights is sprinkling in some X-wing (last Friday of the month for now). We start at 6pm so you have an hour and a half. :-)
GumbySmash 0 Posted September 28, 2013 Oklahoma is, strangly enough, crazy for this game. I spent 2 days scouring the STATE for wave 1 ships...found 2.
Moore1980 233 Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) Well, it would seem that the area west of Chicago and North or Peoria in Illinois is a barren waste of players. Though, I will one of these days head over to the local game shop for a "show and tell" day of X-wing to spark interest. Side note... this is not a quote.. well is it.. its one I made, but it was not intended to be "quoted". Edited September 28, 2013 by Moore1980

I suppose you've asked the owner of the store if you could leave behind a flyer with your email for possible players to contact you if they wanted a game already? that's about the only advise not already given I can think of. jetsetter 49 Posted September 28, 2013 FFG also provides a sign up sheet on the support page of the xwing site.....print that and see if you can post it at your LGS.
