eriktheguy 12 Posted September 21, 2013 I think that by RAW you can't since a weapon can have only one sight. This doesn't make sense to me as sniper rifles with telescopic sights and red lasers on the target are a hollywood hallmark. I realize that these red dot sights are much less popular in real military applications, but I know that physically it is very possible and simple to do. Plasmafest 12 Posted September 21, 2013 You could ask the GM to allow it as a Customisation, maybe drop the bonus to +5 to keep it in line with the other examples.
eriktheguy 12 Posted September 21, 2013 Thanks for the very fast replies. Omni-scopes are nigh impossible to obtain. The customization idea sounds right, lotta ratlings with self modified guns and I'll ask the GM.
bogi_khaosa 267 Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) They're nigh-impossible to obtain because combining several sights is very powerful. You're basically asking for an easy-to-get omni-sight. Edited September 21, 2013 by bogi_khaosa
eriktheguy 12 Posted September 21, 2013 You could ask the GM to allow it as a Customisation, maybe drop the bonus to +5 to keep it in line with the other examples. To elaborate on why I think this a good idea. Laser sights don't really work with sniper rifles that well, they're mostly used in TV shows to cue the audience or by police forces to legitimize the threat of firepower and provoke surrender. They're a bit redundant with a weapon that already has a sight, though they can be useful at nighttime. They're also a bad idea if you're trying to remain hidden. A good use for them is with close-combat weapons like pistols, especially those fired from the hip. If I houseruled it, I'd probably say that laser sights make it easier to aim with non-accurate weapons, basically take a half aim action for free while you move, or ready or brace. This would mostly be to stop players from aiming AND using a laser sight, which means they get +10 for aiming twice which doesn't make much sense to me. A laser sight on an accurate weapon would probably just let you shoot at night with no penalty, provided that you are aiming. As it stands, the laser sight is better than the scope at short and normal range, equal at long range, and only worse than the scope at extreme range. Basically, my sniper rifle is better with a laser sight than it is with a scope at 1/2 a kilometer or closer, which is probably isn't working as intended. eriktheguy 12 Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) They're nigh-impossible to obtain because combining several sights is very powerful. You're basically asking for an easy-to-get omni-sight. Well, I'm basically asking to be able to attach a laser pointer to the same gun that already has a telescopic sight. Modern weaponry seems to be able to do this with astounding ease. I'll relent on the grounds that mechanically it does most of what an omni-sight can, but physically speaking it doesn't make much sense. I'm probably just going to remove the scope for a laser pointer anyways, since the laser pointer is far more powerful. Magus Black 72 Posted September 21, 2013 If you take the Marksman talent you wont need the Scope (since it does what the Telescopic Sight does but doesn't require you to Full-Action Aim), which frees up room for the Red-light Laser Sight...unless you don't have either the Ballistic Skill AND the Finesse Aptitudes that is. 1 Tenebrae reacted to this
eriktheguy 12 Posted September 22, 2013 Yeah, I was originally going to ignore marksman because it was redundant with the scope, but now I'll be taking it to free up the slot for the red dot, it seems like the best way to go. I'll probably ditch scope for red dot earlier, because at anything less than 600 meters the red dot is equal or better. It is pretty funny when you think about it though. "I need to learn to get better at seeing things far away so I can ditch this useless scope and put a laser pointer on my gun" RAW the laser pointer doesn't seem to affect stealth. If the GM rules that it does I'll also ask him if the red dot can make it easier to pin foes (probably a -10 on their check) because this is similar to how they're used in the real world. bogi_khaosa 267 Posted September 22, 2013 Hmm. It affects stealth in Black Crusade.
Nightcloak 18 Posted September 23, 2013 considering the rule sof the red-dot laser sight i newer pictured it as a aiming laser but as a reddot sight that uses a laser to project the red to onto the lens like an eotech or aimpoint sight which are actually superior to traditional scopes because they do not suffer from parallex usually they are unmagnified and most useful for assault rifles and such but there are a few magnified ones (which are vastly expensive, sort of like an omni scope) treating the reddot like this also explains why you cant combine sights
Tenebrae 429 Posted September 28, 2013 "I need to learn to get better at seeing things far away so I can ditch this useless scope and put a laser pointer on my gun" Remember the old joke? "What do you call a lasgun with a laser sight? Twin-linked." 1 Myrion reacted to this
Routa-maa 180 Posted September 28, 2013 @Tenebrae Haven't heard that one in a long time @Bogi_Khaosa Well, it doesn't affect Stealth per se. It just give the target some way to notice that he's being targeted and possibly dodge the shot. Finding the sniper would still be it's own game.
