Time for a more difficult expansion?

6 posts in this topic

With lots of easy ways to level up and increase your stats to ridiculous levels it can be anticlimatic when the strongest enemies in the end are 12-14 and only 10 in the various cards.

It would be interesting to have a truly diabolical board expansion to give really powered up characters a challenge , whether a forest/graveyard/vampire tower etc have end bosses in the 20-25 stat range and regular card enemies in the 10-20 range would be great for some more difficult variety and perhaps even a different way to play to switch things up every once in a while.

This is a racing game, not a strolling around the board becomming almighty game. if you got 12-15 str/crf points you should already have won the game a long time ago. so Theres no need to have more monsters with str/crf higher than 10.

if you really wants to have a longer/harder...................... gameplay, just double the str/crf on monsters you Draw.

also its really annoying being the player(s) just waiting for the powerfull player to finish the game, so a new can be started.

But yes, sometimes players can level incredible fast, but its 90% luck when that happens, since this game is totally random.

Get a warhorse, stroll through the dungeon until you can curbstomp the lord of darkness and land on the crown, you can be in the 20+ range and the game is over in an hour. Before I played with the dragon expansion this is what happened almost every game.

The regular game is fine everything already focuses on it, having a different option adds some variety.

Warhorse won't help you very much in the Dungeon, because there are so many strong Craft Enemies there that you should lose your Warhorse if you cannot count on a reliable Craft too.

Well, the real problem is that when you're playing with a boss Alternative Ending, players tend to level up as much as they can and go for the endgame when they're sure to win. There are lots of ways to stop a character on his way to the Crown, but it's not 100% granted that they will work or be available at the right time.

A more challenging game with extra strong bosses/Enemies means only that the game will last longer. It won't change the way a character becomes "Crown-ready", it will only slow down the process. If you have a 50 Str 50 Cft end boss, you'll stay around until you're are Str/Cft 56 or more. So what's the point of it all?

Talisman is a challenge against the board only in the first half of the game. Second half is about balance with other characters; you can always attempt a rush for the Crown, but if you're not strong enough or have that reassuring Counterspell in hand everything can happen. Daring players try to win early on, and sometimes fail miserably, while prudent (or self-indulging) ones wait until they have a clear advantage. Daring players make up for shorter games, others tend to make it longer and boring sometimes. But this is the game as it always has been.

Let's hope to get new ways to interact with the game in the next expansion. Something that's really new, intriguing, and some extra danger that can hit a character at any stage of the game will be welcome. I don't think this could be achieved through more big badasses, though.

We have found without the alternate endings, this is pretty much the norm.  Get enough strength or Craft (the war horse helps A LOT or a A good spell will do the trick as well) and whip through the dungeon, kill the LoD and get the cloak of feathers.  If you can teleport to the middle region, you'll get to the portal of power soon and then the next turn it's over (teleport to the CoC).

This game is random, but we consistently have quick games with this strategy.  I have to admit it has made the game a bit boring.
