Critical damage Righteous Fury

Recommended Posts

P.250 of the Main Rule Book,

Righteous Fury makes the effect of critical damage you roll, without dealing damage and may not be affected by feats that affect Critical Damage dealt such as crack shot as they modify the Critical Damage and not the Righteous Fury effect.

P. 102 of the Hammer of the Emperor expansion.

Under Righteous Blow feat, it specifies that you roll twice to determine the amount of Critical Damage you deal with Righteous Fury which means that you do deal Critical Damage which cancels the reason Crack Shot feat that would not change the Effect of Righteous fury since it is not Crit damage.

Did I miss something, or is that an error?

It's not an error, it's just inelegant design.

Mechanically Righteous Fury causes Critical Damage, but to prevent Righteous Fury from being much, much too effective, the Critical Damage it causes is treated as if it isn't Critical Damage but instead some other unspecified thing. Let's call it Righteous Damage for the sake of clarity.

Both to curtail the lethality of Righteous Fury and because the result of it - the Righteous Damage - is considered distinct from Critical Damage, stuff that affects Critical Damage does not affect Righteous Fury/Righteous Damage unless the rules explicitly say otherwise.

So no, Crack Shot doesn't work with Righteous Fury. And yes, Righteous Blow does indeed work with Righteous fury, but not with Critical Damage.
