Grand Trader Chode 3 Posted August 25, 2013 I am trying to construct a grand cruiser for my group but I can not figure out what the book means by "cruiser only" components? does this mean that grand cruisers be equipped things like the clemency-pattern life sustainers? SirFrog 64 Posted August 25, 2013 Cruiser Only-parts may be mounted on Cruisers or larger, as far as I know, unless specially noted otherwise.
Erathia 648 Posted August 25, 2013 Grand Cruisers and Battle Cruisers didn't exist at the beginning of Rogue Trader. The Cruiser was the largest ship, and it would have components that could only be equipped on a Cruiser (e.g. the Ship Master's Bridge). Since it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to recreate existing components or reprint them in the book, any ship component that can be fitted on a Cruiser can be fitted on a Grand Cruiser or a Battle Cruiser - otherwise there are no Life Support systems that would be valid for mounting on the Grand/Battle Cruisers. Thus for things that say "Cruiser Only", it actually means "Cruiser or larger only".
jlsmith 1 Posted February 5, 2014 Battle Cruisers are the same size as Cruisers, seeing as battle cruisers are made from cruiser halls. Just letting people know.
Erathia 648 Posted February 5, 2014 Battle Cruisers are the same size as Cruisers, seeing as battle cruisers are made from cruiser halls. Just letting people know. I don't think this is correct. I believe that Heavy Cruisers are Cruisers with extreme hull plating overhauls, but Battle Cruisers are their own class. BFK gives backgrounds for the three canonical Battle Cruisers, all of which are indicated to be their own hull class rather than modified Cruisers. They also tend to have more crew, and have their own custom plasma drive in order to power them which is not backwards-compatible with a Cruiser. jlsmith 1 Posted February 5, 2014 It says in BFK and i Quote "Designed to provide the fleet with the long range punch of battleship weaponry in cruiser sized hull,........" what it really is they took a wrecked cruiser hull shoved a larger plasma drive into it and upped its weapons systems. BattleCruisers are Cruiser sized Hulls just have more weapons and a bigger Plasma drive that is it really. look at all the stats in BFK and RT, and i think they even said that BCs were Cs in BFG. and the minatures were the same size. I am not sure about the HC because most HCs are pre-Heresy and are in the survice of the ruinous powers now. Though i could see HC being upped Cs

When I referred to the "three canonical Battlecruisers" I meant the Overlord, Chalice and Mars hulls. The Armageddon is a remodeled Lunar-class Cruiser, created during the Third War for Armageddon... which hasn't happened yet given the current Rogue Trader timeline. I blame the Warp. The Mars even has an integrated Nova Cannon built into its ship design that can never be removed, so it can't just be an upscaled Cruiser, because there are no Cruisers that have a mandatory Nova Cannon. jlsmith 1 Posted February 6, 2014 Good point and I looked at them all myself (which I should of done before hand) and the three are not salvaged cruiser hulls, you are correct in that, but they are the same size as cruisers. I kinda wish FF will come out with Battleships cause if a group is running around with a Grand Cruiser what is strong enough to kill that?

Virus Torpedoes and Disruption Broadsides, although they're designed to be very hard to kill. 2 Tenebrae and Nameless2all reacted to this
jlsmith 1 Posted February 6, 2014 That will work. Though I still want them to come out with Battleships that would be fun.
Nameless2all 210 Posted February 6, 2014 That will work. Though I still want them to come out with Battleships that would be fun. They did come out with a Battleship. It's called "Da Wurldbreaka," pg 56 EotA.
jlsmith 1 Posted February 6, 2014 What book is EotA?
SirFrog 64 Posted February 6, 2014 What book is EotA? Edge of the Abyss, a supplement with GM-only information.
Ruwalk 1 Posted February 7, 2014 EOA has good stuff for players too lots of ideas in there for profit and adventure.

Nameless2all 210 Posted February 7, 2014 If the name "Da Wurldbreaka" didn't give you a hint though, then maybe this will help. These guys like to say "Waaggghhhh!!!!" Anyhoot, there is a lot of good info in EotA, besides that ship. Actually, there are several ships in there, along with NPC's to go with them. Happy gaming though. jlsmith 1 Posted February 8, 2014 figured that out. Orks are fun I love reading the ship components in BFK.

One word of caution: Da Wurldbreaka is really nasty. I mean "end of campaign boss for high level party" nasty. Although Vall's wolfpack (EotA & FS) is also dead 'ard; put all Vall's ships in the same place at the same time and it's gonna be ugly. There are still ways to make the players' lives difficult without dusting off the traitor marine & Necron homebrews.
jlsmith 1 Posted February 11, 2014 Which book is the Necrons in? I thought they only had Necrons in Deathwatch. And before anyone says anything yes i know you can cross all the systems.

Tome of Fate (for Black Crusade) comes to mind. Indeed there are necrons in the BC core book IIRC.

Well their planets and myths are described in various RT books. A bright green star, dead worlds with monolithic ruins, metal doors that can't be cut through, etc etc. Can't recall off the top of my head which books their in though. None of their warriors, ships, weapons, etc etc are in any of the RT books, just FYI. I heard BC is mostly on par with RT, so converting them over shouldn't be to hard. Vandegraffe 27 Posted February 17, 2014 Have too look into that. I know they are in DW, I even think there is a whole adventure around them, maybe.. There is a bunch of material in the Outer Reach splatbook for DW. Mind the power level, though. The Necrons are supposed to be a challenge to Deathwatch marines who start at 13000 XP, and Gauss weapons are an unnatural abomination of science. Only use them if you love the smell of burning fate points in the morning. Cheers, - V.

From my experience DW power level isn't that much higher than RT (if RT party is combat focused which is not a given). My group has fought necrons around rank 3 and did all right. If you have power armor and the occasional heavy weapon you should be able to handle Immortals and the occasional Lychguard.
