Another Character Generator

I am having a bit of trouble. I have successfully installed the Web Version on both my desktop and laptop and have moved the data folder to a dropbox to keep them sync'd. So far everything is working great. The GM also wanted access, so I forwarded him the install file and shared the dropbox folder. He installed the Web Version on top of an older build, and now the installation on his computer is jumbled. The version number of the application is the same as my computer, and he has the data path pointed to the dropbox folder. When I have it check the Data Info it matches my own. However, he does not appear to have access to the modified data files, and when he attempts to open a character file, it says that its the wrong version. I have attempted to clear the cache, I tried to hand clean files from AppData, and even uninstalled/reinstalled. Clearly I am missing something - does anyone have any suggestions on how to help my poor DM?

He could try wiping the program files folder and installing again, has to clear his cache, and if you're using custom data he might not have imported your dataset. If you're up to date, it sounds like its probably an issue on the other end of stuff out of sync. 

Have him try creating a character and see if you can load his.

There is an interesting quirk with the generator. 

Last night I was using two screens during a game. I opened the launcher on one screen, and then moved the character generator to another.  This afternoon I was on just my laptop and launched the character generator and it threw it over to a screen that wasn't there.  The only way I could get it back was to connect to a second screen and drag it back to my laptop screen.

Weird.

What version of Windows are you using?  I know you're emulating from Boot Camp, but what's the actual version?  Also, go into the Region and Language control panel and make sure those are set to something.

Also my local and region settings as well as language are all set to English and United states in windows settings. 

Are you thinking the problem is on my end ? something to do with my system (probably as everyone else is using it just fine)

I also ran a file verification for the .NET framework to see if something was missing and these were the results. I added only those that were missing the rest is obviously there.

 Is this something you are using in your program and may be the culprit?

I really have no clue what's happening with you, but you can try this:

Go to the app directory at:  C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen

Load the Settings.xml file into a text editor like NotePad.

Replace it's contents with the following:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Settings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
  <Setting Name="LocaleID" Value="1033" />
</Settings>

Save it back.  See if, by some chance, this fixes it.  If not, check the event viewer's stack trace and see if it's saying the same thing as it did before.

Thank you for your help but i got it to work !! 

I started playing with the language and region settings to see if this helps in case something was corrupted in the way and it INDEED solved the problem !! :D

For some reason he doesn't like the Format: English(World) . For any other settings that i tried it worked ! So it seems something there is the problem.

For your ships XML files I have noticed some irregularities:

Sentinel class - weapons need to be corrected

Tie Interdictor - incorrect 'mon cal missile' thingy

Ton Falk - incorrrect v6l? thingy

The following ships are missing <count> elements in their XML files and are missing weapons (at least as far as the XML is concerned):

YT-1300 Light Freighter 
* LASERMED - 1 
* LASERLT - 1 
Wander-Class Jump Freighter 
* IONLT- 1 
Wayfarer-Class Medium Freighter 
* LASERQUAD - 1

That's a Windows quirk that I've encountered with other software. It tries to reopen program windows on the last screen that program used, and will occasionally do so to screens no longer connected.

if I were to guess, you're on Windows 10?

if I were to guess, you're on Windows 10?

Your windows laptop should have a combination of function keys that lets you toggle between display modes (single screen, dual screen, etc). That's what I used to use whenever I had this "glitch" show up -- it's probably just a flag setting in the OS/BiOS somewhere, but toggling through the modes always fixed the issue.

Oh, yeah, it's easily resolved.

I was just pointing out that it's a Windows thing, not anything about OggDude's software.:D

I don't even have English (World) in my list!  I don't think it exists as a standard locale ID.  At least it doesn't show up in the Microsoft locale list.  It must have been some weird custom locale.

Not in one consolidated place, no.  Totals are listed at the top, and you can go into the different panes to see what you bought.

There was a reason the Sentinel was like that.  I think it might have been in the beta, then it accidentally got changed... or something :)  I'll change it if this is how it's supposed to look.  It's been awhile...

Fixed the TIE, made it a concussion missile instead.  It can be upgraded to a proton torpedo in the vehicle pane, so no need for two profiles.

I couldn't find anything wrong with the Ton Falk.  The VL6 is set to Linked 1 on the ship, but the weapon itself doesn't have Linked.  It's not clear that the Linked quality is part of the weapon, or just part of the ship's layout.

If the count is missing, it defaults to 1, so all of those other ships still work.

I just tried it and it worked.  Set blaster to show, go to print, and with just the xciter, it was showing 3 setback.  Added custom grip, printed again, it showed two.  Added the xciter optional mods, and all three were removed.

Seems to work fine in my build as well, both crafted and normal weapons.

I'm not having any luck. The description will say Inaccurate 1, but the dice pool keeps defaulting to 2 setbacks, even with all mods selected on both attachments. I've tried multiple characters/weapons and its the same. If only one attachment is on weapon the dice pool will reflect correctly. Once I attach the second attachment (doesn't matter which order I attach them) the dice pool gets wonky.

I don't know if its been mentioned, but after updating to the latest version, the compact sheet isn't showing all the talents or equipment like the older version did. I tried going into the compact options and selecting all, but it still displays less than everything it used to. Any ideas? Thanks!

I just confirmed that it doesn't work.  After adding it all up the character generator was showing 1 boost and 2 setback.

Hey Ogg, can i put forward a feature request:

I often update the sheet in the middle of an adventure and then have to remember to write on the current wounds, strain and any remaining critical injuries.  Would it be possible to add a feature so that i can transfer all of this to the sheet generator so that it prints off when I update each character (its not a big deal and can be done manually, but this option would be nice to have)?

If you have an iPad, then Fringer's Datapad may help you do do this kind of thing.

Instead of using a print out, it provides an electronic version of Oggdude's character sheet.

Tell me the exact item, the exact attachments, and the exact optional mods that you are using, including the order in which you're making changes, and I'll see if I can reproduce it.  As I said, it worked for me.

Exact item: Various. I tried standard blaster rifle, blaster pistol, blaster carbine, and a few others.

Exact attachments: Rapid-recharge Xcitor and Custom grip. Sometimes with other attachments, but testing the results just the two.

Mods: I tried without any mods, with all mods, adding them in different orders. I tried attaching the Custom Grip first, then the Rapid Xcitor. Then switched. Still no luck. 

 

I've tried using other attachments  (custom) that add Inaccurate to see if it reduces the setback, and it is. I'm only getting an issue when the Rapid Xcitor is paired with the Custom Grip. I have not tested to see if it is auto-fire or anything else that is causing it.
