kkuja 317 Posted October 16, 2016 Does any one have any ideas for using this generator with a Mac. Or issues with adobe reader with generator? I have seen the results of this program and it is awesome, hope to get it working on my PC. I'm running a virtualbox virtual machine with windows 7 and running chargen at it, on my mac. Works very well. Only downside is that the life time of the virtualbox image is 90 days, because I'm cheap and using IE test images, which MS offers free (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/). Steps to use those images: 1) download and install virtualbox 2) download windows image and unzip the zip file. 3) open virtual box and open File -> import appliance then select the image you unzipped. Optional: After importing is done, right click the image on a list and choose settings, and change memory and cpu settings from system tab to suit your needs (I use 2048 Mb and 2 core and it's fast enough for me). Also, setup shared folder and set copy paste to bidirectional to make usage between mac and virtual machine easier. (Shared folder is great, you just map it as drive in windows, and it works like normal network drive, and everything you save there is instantly usable on mac. This is great for example if you want to export/print character sheets to PDFs for distribution. 4) start virtual machine, download and install character generator and use it. NicoJMont 123 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) I am having a ton of troubles with the character generator. I have tried to open a character and it errors off and crashes. I try to make a new character and when you try to save it errors off. I have cleared my cache and it still happens. I have uninstalled the character generator and wiped out all my character files then downloaded a fresh copy of the character generator and encounter the same issue with the generator. When I try to import my character files it says that they are in an invalid location. I have even tried to download the beta 1.8 and that does not work at all. Even when I point it at my data folder with all of my character files it displays no characters. When I try to import it errors off. This has made the generator unusable. I am using Windows 10. I have tried to run it in compatibility mode with windows 8 & 7 and same issue. No matter how hard I try it does not seem to work at all. I am not sure what has happened. I am so confused. Have noticed a bug in the 18 Beta... when attempting to print an encounter, I'm getting "TEST [RIVAL]" instead of the Adversary name... Fairly sure this has worked OK previously... I was trying to show someone how to install it and later i noticed all my characters are gone. When the editor starts it gives the "we made a character for you" pop up but generates no default character. Importing a character causes the editor to crash and exporting a character creates an empty file. I tried a full clean install to no effect. I also tried to update my .Net framework but this being a work PC I'm pretty sure that's disabled as I'm not an administrator. It just sat there for like 3 hours saying "installing components". I have uninstalled the character generator and wiped out all my character files then downloaded a fresh copy of the character generator and encounter the same issue with the generator. When I try to import my character files it says that they are in an invalid location. I have even tried to download the beta 1.8 and that does not work at all. Even when I point it at my data folder with all of my character files it displays no characters. When I try to import it errors off. This has made the generator unusable. I am using Windows 10. I have tried to run it in compatibility mode with windows 8 & 7 and same issue. No matter how hard I try it does not seem to work at all. I am not sure what has happened. I am so confused. I'm still having weird issues getting everything to look correct in Win10, which is holding things up a bit. Clearing cache had no effect. I went ahead and deleted all local data to allow the software to generate all new folders. Did a fresh install using the default data locations. Still not working. I get the message that a default character has been made but nothing shows up in the list. When I make a new character manually and save it the Char0 file is empty. Try opening the 1.8 launcher, clearing your cache, do not open the 1.8 character generator. Closing it and then installing and running 1.7.0.1 (the newest one from Oggdude's sig). Then point it to the correct data path, import characters if your path is empty. Or you could browse to "C:\Users\[YouruserName]\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen\Cache" and delete anything in there. kinnison 850 Posted October 20, 2016 Minor QoL request. in the "Gm Tools" you can modify adversaries. But to make vehicles you have to go to the Data Editor. I know they are not the same as character generation. But i would like to be able to copy the stat block of a vehicle and modify it to fit my needs for a game or "publishing" and adventure.from the GM tools. Barn 3 Posted October 21, 2016 I'm a little confused. In the 'Fly Casual' source books, it says you can choose 2 free skills from Piloting: Space/Planetary, Astrogation or Gunnery. That sounds like the career skills for the Pilot specialization, from the EotE core book. Choosing between one of the Piloting skills sounds like the species ability of the Corellian Human from Suns of Fortune. Arrakus 174 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) Was wondering how hard would the following be to implement. 1) Currently, when you mouse over talents on the specialization tab, a submenu pops up displaying additional information about the talent as well as additional specializations that that talent can be found in and how many talents are in that specialization. Would there be any additional value if that same submenu was to also show how many times that talent has been selected for that particular character? People with characters that have multiple trees may/may not find this useful. 2) Can a different mouse-over submenu be added for the characteristics, wound, strain, defense, soak stat block at the bottom part of the generator? For example, if one was to mouse over any of the quick reference characteristics at the bottom, a submenu would pop up and display all of the factors contributing to that characteristic (e.g. race, cybernetic, dedication (or list out the dedications from each specialization that is being applied), etc). It would also do the same for Wound (base, brawn, toughened etc) , Strain (base, willpower, grit, etc) & Soak (brawn, enduring, armor, etc). For Defense, what it could do, is show all of the sources of defense currently available for that character as well as highlighting the applicable sources the tool is using. I am thinking that this might really help people who have mid to high exp characters (where there are potentially a lot of moving parts) by providing them a finer level detail on how all of the pieces fit together. I think I found a minor bug just wanted to call it out since QA is my real life job lol Desc: When you mod a custom piece of armor the encumbrance changes. Repro: I made a custom piece of Armor with encumbrance 4, def 1, soak 3. The encumbrance was correct in game when I granted it to my user. Then when I added the "energy Dispersion" mod the encumbrance of the whole armor dropped to 1. No big deal gameplay wise (I just added some throwaway item with encumbrance 3). Trying to start the software and after it searches to see if there is an update I get a popup message saying "Cannot Start Application - Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor.". I erased the obligation, cleared the cache and rebought the obligation at 15, but got the same result. Its not letting me buy the 10 point effect. JalekZem 420 Posted October 30, 2016 (edited) by setting it to 5, you put the mandatory obligation to 5. This then limits you to only getting credit for another 5 obligation. Per the EotE CRB, the mandatory obligation for a 5 PC group is 10.This means you are required to take 10 points worth and do not get credit for them. You can take up to another 10 for the option points. EDIT: Upon rereading your previous post, I may have his understood that instead of having 5 players, you have enough to make your mandatory obligation 5. You can only ever take double your group size's mandatory obligation and get points for them. You can take more but, will not get the points. So in your case, if your party base obligation is 5 per player, then you can spend another 5 to get points and can choose either of the 5 point options. If the GM is letting you take more to get a 10 point option, then you need to go to the top sheet of the character and 'gift' yourself the rest of the 10 point option directly into cash or XP.
