How does this system incorporate expansions/army building?

I'm new to BattleLore and I realize things may shift a bit for 2.0, but I'm curious how the game handles expansions and army building.  I recall from a video I watched that in 1.0 you had prefab armies but in 2.0 you'll be able to custom build using a points system (a la 40K or X-Wing).  Did previous expansions allow you to add on to your existing army?  Do you need, or benefit, from having multiple copies of the same expansion set (other than playing extra large battles)?

Yet to be fully divulged, but seems clear to me that the expansion will occur through figures and scenario cards.  Unlike the first edition of BattleLore, and most C&C games, it appears there will be no set scenarios in this game that come from the publisher, rather each game's set up will be determined by the combination of each side's chosen scenario card.  I imagine that each expansion will include everything necessary to play the scenario cards included in it (unless these also or only come separate from the figures), but also have the option to include other expansions, as well as multiple copies of the same expansion.

 

Essentially, this is the same way that edition 1 was set up to expand and I expect edition 2 to head towards the same end, albeit in a different path.

 

Again, yet to be fully divulged, but the scenario cards work similar to how Call to Arms deployment cards worked in 1e, though it seems they grant much more control to placement through the points system rather than dictated placement augmented by "Specialist" cards of 1e.  I very much enjoyed the Call to Arms set up of 1e, though many found it unwieldy.  I expect the set up system of 2e to be more streamlined, but serves the same function of allowing one to get a wide variety of units onto the board so the fun can begin ;)

You should only really "need" one copy of any given product, unless FFG starts selling individual units. Epic battles require a second board, but in previous iterations of the game system, additional boards could be purchased without needing a second main game.

They were vague at the demo tables how army construction worked.   The Uthuk Yllan A1 scenario card 'Blood in the Water' showed the map setup, the places where I could put my figures, and the special rules for earning VP by killing units in the water as well as the special rule for cavalry not being hindered by the water.    I didn't look closely enough at the five Uthuk unit cards to see what might be on those, though.

Each unit has a point value. You select a point value to play to. Examples were 50 points per side. Any points not used were given as lore tokens. So tons of expansion will be available if they want. And based off what they have in the base box about 40 to 50 models per army. So you can mix and match. Models have nice detail. And can be painted.

What races will be devolope in the game. I was upset when they didn't include elves in the battlelore game. Also what size will models be? Will they be similar to the 1st battlelore? What will happen to Battlelore 1.0?

if you red well enough the FFG preview, you should have seen that minis will be 28mm (like descent) and no more like B1 (20mm)

 

Nothing really official about battlelore 1.0, but i'm almost sure it's lost and abandonned.

I know the figures will be different size, but I wonder if they will have an upgrade kit like LOTR War of the Ring and Descent???

I don't know about War of the Ring, but Descent gets an upgrade kit because the figure can be reused (and they are the most costly part in production).  However, it is not the case in Battlelore where the figures cannot be reused, so I don't think there will be an upgrade kit.

Battlelore Second Edition is too different from the previous edition for something like an "upgrade kit" to work.

 

This is pretty much a fresh start for the game. There was always issues with reprinting the base game at a decent price which i suspect was a key reason why FFG wasn't really supporting the game. There was no way to bring new people into the game without an available base game.  Now with this new edition new players can get on board.

 

I am a HUGE fan of the original, and I'm really excited about the new edition.

Granted there would be no way to do any update kit. But I suspect that after the base 2e game is releases, I bet there will be some folks who would want to be able to use the 1e as well.

Even releasing the updated game cards via download would work even.

But also at the same token, I do see the FFG still has some copies of the expansions and that would maybe clear out that number if there would be updated creature/army cards for some of them.
