Why can't you trash a console to put a new one in play?

In the latest FAQ, it says you can't trash a console in play to put another console in play. Why not? I understand the only one console in play thing, but to me makes no sense why you could not replace them.

You have never been able to. That is not new with this FAQ once you have one in play that is it unless you can remove it by some other means.

Indeed.  You've never been able to trash a console and replace it with another.

 

A runner cannot voluntarily trash any hardware or resources.  The only way the runner cant trash their own hardware or resources is if they sell it with Aesop's Pawnshop.
