Inquisition-based skirmish game?

5 posts in this topic

Miniature-based skirmish games are apparently hot right now, and the inter-webs are buzzing with rumors about GW launching an Inquisition-based skirmish game:

I'm not 100% sure I believe it- they already had an Inquisition-based skirmish game- Inquisitor- that didn't do too well... Still, that game's mechanics well terrible (it required a GM, few gawd's sake...), so a better, more streamlined version might be cool.

And, if it is true, that means one thing: new minis! Hopefully multi-part plastic Inquisitors and Acolytes, similar to the Empire Wizard and General figs for Warhammer.

The original Inquisitor wasn't just a "skirmish game" like, say, the current Kill-Team rules (which supposedly are rather fun to play!) but in part an RPG - that's why it required a GM. GW's official term for this hybrid concept was "narrative wargame". Personally, I also thought that the rules were fairly interesting, even if parts of the system do not work well at times or required FAQ'ing/houseruling to smoothen things out (then again, arguably this goes for FFG's 40k RPGs as well).

Did you notice that many of Inquisitor's talents etc found their way into Black Industry's and later FFG's books as well? (in fact, I wish they'd have adopted even more)

As for the rumours themselves ... I'll believe it when I see it, but it would be a cool thing. I have always been fond of the various "Specialist Games" that GW had put out, and am a bit sad that they do not see more support and proliferation.

I'm really hoping this isn't true, just because it means GW is likely to yank the rug out from under FFG as far as licensing goes.  They're dicks like that.

I'll probably flip the $100 for a copy, more for the models than anythings else. But if these models are over-the-top Blanche, then never mind.

Why would this change anything regarding GW and FFG? The licence explicitly left out any miniatures based games (which is why FFG were not given the rights to Space Hulk and Warhammer Quest, and why all their 40k games don't have actual miniatures but "busts" or strange counters and markers etc).

This isn't stepping on FFG's toes in anyway. It doesn't invalidate the RPGs in anyway at all, and it is a seperate style of game from FFG's board games. Hell, Necromunda and Inquisitor both already exist, which this sounds like a sort of "inbetween" version of. It is also going to be a one off special box release.

It sounds interesting, if it actually happens... didn't get Dreadfleet. If this comes out I might get it.
