Teacom 0 Posted February 17, 2013 I want to spend xp to up grade a skill from 0 to 1. However, how do I know how that upgrade will modifiy the dice pool. I can't find it in the begginners rule book?
Cilionelle 149 Posted February 18, 2013 Skills always change the pool. Either you start the pool with the attribute or the skill, whichever is higher. Then change the green to yellow according to the second number, the lower of the two. I'm not sure where it is in the rules, but it was definitely in the beta book! player635458 0 Posted February 18, 2013 Take the characteristic number and take the skill rank, whichever is higher of those two numbers will be your abilty dice (green), and then upgrade a number of those ability dice to proficiency dice (yellow) equal to the lower number. For example: Pash the smuggler wants to charm the bartender. Pash Presence is 3, and his Charm rank is 1, so he builds a dice pool of 3 ability dice, then he upgrades 1 to proficiency. His final pool is GGY.

Cilionelle 149 Posted February 19, 2013 the Beta book is available on eBay or in various book shops. it's getting to be a collector's item, it seems! you can spend XP to increase both during character creation, but after that, only skills.

Outside of character creation Characteristics can only be raised by obtaining the Dedication Talents that are down near the bottom of most of the Career Specializations. When I looked at the Beta book (before any of the updates) it was between 75 and 125 XP to get those Talents depending on the tree.
