While clear sleeves are, apparently, acceptable, opaque sleeves that are seen in most taped matches from these tournaments make it less likely to have marked cards, and would sometimes make it more obvious if the person tried to. I think they were somehow under the mistaken belief that slipping two cards into a sleeve would mark it or that counterfeiting would be easier with opaque sleeves. That has WotC written all over it. Yeah, this was almost the only game they actually came up with on their own, so better protect the cash cow from any perceivable danger.
