ZU.13 Key Master +1 strength question

Recommended Posts

Hi, quick question RE: the rule on ZU.13 in What Lies Ahead.

It says "1 credit: +1 strength"

Does this mean permanently?? It doesn't say "until the end of the run" or "until the end of the turn" like other cards.

Or does it mean only for the current encounter? I assume it is this but any clarification much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Forget I asked. I'm being stupid. I just reread the rules and see it only applies to the current encounter of course, like other icebreakers I've used many time.

Durr.

What are people's thoughts on this compared to Gordian Blade?

I like it quite a bit. It costs 3 credits fewer, and only loses 1 strength in the process. The "until end of run" provision rarely comes up, and the fact that ZU.13 can be played without taking up memory makes it very strong (this lets you fit in your 3 basic breakers + a 2 MU program like Magnum Opus or Sneakdoor Beta without needing any +memory)

Agree with wildfire for the reasons stated. I've replaced Gordian in my Shaper deck with this.

You have be able to take every piece of advice and apply it to your own situation, though - if you find your opponents play far more code gates than other types of ICE (for whatever reason), Gordian may be more useful in the long run. During some of your games, consider noting down if a run would have been cheaper or more expensive with Gordian, and decide from actual game experience.

It's a good card, but I don't know if it's worth replacing gordian per se. maybe have a copy or two of each for situational use. Besides, you can always install over or pawn shop the one that isn't working for you….

Now, when are they releasing the gate keeper? ;-)
