"Modified" components

Recommended Posts

I have a question for the group about something that I have been considering. Sometimes it is an unholy mess to try to accurately measure something on a crowded battlefield. Since I have two core sets, I have been thinking about cutting one of my range rulers at the Range 1 line. That would leave 2 pieces, one range 1 in length, and one range 2 in length. This, with the other uncut range ruler, would give me three sticks to measure with, one for each range. The shorter ones would be far easier to manipulate on a crowded board, where it is sometimes hard to get a full-length range ruler threaded through all the confusion without jostling a ship or two. Sometimes it's downright impossible to do.

By the strictest interpretation of the tournament rules, this would be considered an illegal modification. But, if you were a TO, would you consider allowing it at your tournament? Or is this kind of thing just for casual play?

Thanks!

If I were to TO an event, I would go beyond simply allowing this, I would be actively encouraging this, as sometimes using a Range 1 ruler would be MORE accuarate then using all 3 and trying to 'thread it through'. My only condition would be that you are able to prove to your opponant, when requested, that your shorter range rulers have been cut accurately.

When you get a big swirling furball of TIE and X-WIngs, it's really hard to get the ruler in there.

One trick I've see in other games is to make a T shaped ruler, where the measuring part is the top of the T. Then you simply invert it and go straight down to the gap in question to measure.

Think I'm going to go make one now! :)
