Next faction : Japanese or Vril ?

32 posts in this topic

 Hi guys,

I can't wait for the next faction to come out.  I read everywhere that Japanese are next.  I want to know what do you expect from the Japanase faction ?  Here are my thoughts :

- New rules :  Naval battle

-  New units : Samurai units (King of close combat ?), armor 3 units focus

-  Walker : No idea

- Planes : 3 small armor 1 plane with a pilot leading the unit

- Heroes : Focus on aerial pilots and dual wielding Katana heroes.

- New abilities : Katana's using laser technology (stole it from the Axis ?)

- Story : They attack and Axis base and steal Vk technology.

Vril : I expect Vril to be next since the story seems to be going that way.  But, I find it far more difficult to figure out where they are going with the story.  They invade earth (sauces everywhere ?, fells too apocalyptic) or maybe a small unit comes down to earth with objectives to learn millitary tactics, etc (neutral units that can be used by any factions, that would be cool).

What do you guys think ?

I certainly hope it's the Vrill! I love some weird stuff mixed in a WW2 uchronic era!!! That's why I love Dust so much!

So Vrill would have my vote but if they can pull something awesome with the Japanese (like stealth assassins with 1 and C only weapon lines) i'd jump in too…maybe!

Paolo Parente has already stated that the Japanese will not be sword wielding samurai.

That's because they'll be sword wielding ninjas!

I don't know how they could add a 4th "human" army and keep them unique…

Axis are the big bad dudes with long range, command vehicles, lasers and jets…

Allies are jumping and running all over the place phasing to dust the enemy…

SSU have hovering copters, tesla canons, super humans, tanks and moustaches…

What new stuff could the Japanese bring to the table?

I can only see an alien race as the fourth army! (wishful thinking) :P

Aren't the Japanese part of the Axis though, so they wouldn't be a new faction - more just like the UK/French units in the Allies army (which is largely the US)?

The only completely "new" factions would be the Vrill or the NNO I imagine - of which the Vrill is the most likely.

I would love to see the Japanese though, in a Pacific theatre - facing Allied troops (US Marines, Australians etc) and SSU (more Chinese units)

As we are seeing US Marine units being released it would suggest that some Japanese units could be next, it would seem odd pitting tropical clad Jarheads against Arctic parka wearing Axis troops!

I would like to see the Vrill though, saucers would be great.

AFter the failure of the vrill in at43 im not really going to buy them for dust so im pushing for the Japanese.

Vril were never in AT:43. Therians, which were humans evolved and Cogs, which I don't think will share the style of the Vril, as Paolo has hinted that the Vril will,at least in some part be related to Greys.

Yeah, he has said they will be very "pulp" style aliens.

I think any introduction of the vrill will really divide Dust fans - some like the more extreme elements (zombies, apes etc) whereas others prefer more realistic WW2 style combat, with the slight twist of walkers etc.

It will be interesting to see where it all ends up.  I just want some Aussie troops in slouch hats and shorts gran_risa.gif

Maxmini make some Digger heads, they would fit the SAS/Legion figures perfectly.

You are correct it was the Cogs. They did suck though.

Wait, do you think they sucked visually or in gameplay?

If it's visually, I agree that they were kind of a letdown.

Gameplay wise, though, I remember them being quite tough, with a lot of talk about them being overpowered when they were released.

visually I didn't mind them. Gameplay was the worst. It was at the bottom point for Rackham and I don't think they were playtesting anything out the door.  So the Cogs were overpowered to the point of being silly.

I found the models to be horrendous. Especially at the end when rackham stopped the better paint jobs.

The type 3 infantry for the Cogs look really good and rules wise the only change that is needed is to remove a single re-roll from all the Cogs weapons and the army works fine (if you have AT-43 armies, just try it and you will see).

The comic books and the core sets explain the history of the factions. Japan is a sub-faction of the Axis just like the british and french are inside the allied faction.

The Axix began to ship walkers to japan secretly early in the war. You dont even need to have the games to know the history because the pdf's are here in this same site.

Also they seem to be the ones responsible for making better armored modifications for the walkers like Wotan.

Description
The “Ryu” is the Japanese version of the “Wotan” heavy walker. It is armed with brand new heavy laser guns. These “schwer Laser Kanone” are able to destroy any heavy target with a few shots. The energy packs to power them are quite bulky, reducing the unit’s speed. But as the “Wotan”, the “Ryu” doesn’t need to move a lot to take care of its targets.
To increase its survivability, Japanese engineers have adapted huge shields on the side of the walker. It can now resist to the strongest of attacks.

Okay, so I admit that my theory on why the Japanese would become a faction is stupid because they already have access to laser technology. The reason behind it is that every faction have their own Vk technology ( Axis=laser, Allies=Phaser, Ssu= Tesla) and I thought that Japanese would make a improve version of laser technology. I do not believe the Japanese will remain with the Germans for long.

How about this story ? Japanese have secretly created an organization on a remote island. This group plans to take control of the Axis command. Axis learns the treachery and war follows. Am I really the only one who prefer a story like this for Japan instead of 'here's a subgroup of the axis'.

first.

The Axis powers (GermanAchsenmächteItalianPotenze dell'AsseJapanese??? Sujikukoku), also known as the Axis allianceAxis nationsAxis countries, or just the Axis, was the alignment of nations that fought in the Second World War against the Allied forces. The Axis grew out of the Anti-Comintern Pact, an anti-communist treaty signed by Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan in 1936. The Kingdom of Italy joined in 1937. The "Rome–Berlin Axis" became a military alliance in 1939 under the Pact of Steel, with the Tripartite Pact of 1940 leading to the integration of the military aims of Germany and its two treaty-bound allies. At their zenith duringWorld War II, the Axis powers presided over empires that occupied large parts of Europe, Africa, East and Southeast Asia, and islands of the Pacific Ocean. The war ended in 1945 with the defeat of the Axis powers and the dissolution of the alliance. Like the Allies, membership of the Axis was fluid, with nations fighting and not fighting over the course of the war.

so blutkreuze and germans are already subfaction

its still alt history game.Organised around themes of WW2 so we have Stalingrad&Ardenes {Urban and winter + Winter and trenches} with zombie and lasers. In future i expect Pacific with marines japanese zombies etc and Africa with weird italians Zombie Rommel and Afganistan based ReDs

second

i play scenarios with pure blutkreuz as faction usualy vs pure Himler Old Guard {zombie ,apes, lasers  vs "regular" units like battle grenadiers}

third

in artbook Japan has distinctive mecha , upgraded infantry and ninjas

cheers

I believe the game designer has put in quite an effort in marketing Dust in Japan. It is natural that Japanese should come first.

The world of Dust and everything that makes it awesome is based on VK technology.  It is natural that the Vrill should be next.

Well while the SSU has been released we've seen British and French hitting the trenches. So one can guess we'll get to see Japanese in coming times as Allied marines are being released right now. But as a complete faction, the only ones who have not appeared are Vril.

A scout/expeditionary force, kind of an invasion spearhead at most, would be great for background. Exploring for resources, recovering artifacts and information, all the while fighting the natives. A great start for a future side development bringing human factions to space as mercenaries or so…
