2 questions about cancelled effects

Recommended Posts

hello,

two questions :

1) May I cancel the triggered effect of mera read when she goes out of shadow with the iron Throne (lannister) or with any event that cancel a triggered effect ?

2) If a player put into play Catelyn Stark from his hand with her abilitty, (for instance cancelled with The Iron Throne) what happen to Catelyn Stark? is she discarded or does she return to hand and can be re put into play right back?

The first (and perhaps the most important) issue here is that the Lannister Iron Throne cancels character abilities.

An ability, even if printed on a character card, that is activated when that card is not in play (like in your hand; or in shadows, if I remember correctly) is not considered a character ability.  It is still an ability, and a card effect, but the Lannister Iron Throne would not be able to cancel either of the abilities mentioned here.

I seem to recall that there was an entire thread about Merra Reed and canceling: when you had to cancel, what you canceled, and so forth.  Sadly, I do not recall the outcome.

The Cat, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure about.  She cannot be cancelled with the Iron Throne for the reason given above, but if she were cancelled with something else, she would just return to the player's hand (because technically, she never left), and he/she would be free to simply activate her ability again and pop her into play.

Close, but when triggering an effect from an out of play area, it is not considered an ability of any kind. It is just a triggered card effect. Still true that Lanni-Iron Throne can't cancel it, but just need to get the terminology correct. Triggering the effect while out of play is not a "triggered card ability," it's a "triggered card effect."

If Meera's "out of Shadows" effect is canceled, she never comes out of Shadows. So she's still there and could just be brought out again (assuming the controller still has gold to pay the cost).

So…same thing as Meera staying in Shadows. gui%C3%B1o.gif
