Additional Dice

Recommended Posts

Lol I just posted about this in the supplies forum, whoops.  My group also has a distain for sharing, although I do agree that since nearly everything uses a blue die to attack in the gam it should have come with more than one.  I would purchase at least one and as many as 3 more sets of the dice as soon as they came out with it.

Hi robin good work, one question, how you know the order of sides?

Thanx.

Order of sides has no importance - unless one knows how to cheat by rolling the dice to make them give a specific result.burla

My family is comprised of avid Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition fans, and we would love to see the sale of extra dice stand alone packets. Some are 20+ year veterans of weekly tabletop RPG games, and they are very particular about using dice touched by others. :)  If offered, I'm sure my husband would buy 3 sets, and possibly even 5. I hope FFG does plan to market these in the near future. They would have made perfect stocking stuffers for my beloved geeks!

I find it very interesting that the orginal post was on July 4th, 2012.  Since then, at least 81 responses have occurred, claiming a willingness to purchase anywhere from 1 to 6 additional sets of dice.

Why is it that when FFG released the Star Wars X-Wing game, additional sets of dice were made available virtually immediately, and yet, after 5+ months of this post (not to mention when D2e was actually released), we can't get additional sets of dice for this game - despite apparent over whelming interest.

It seems to me that this post has been around long enough, and generated enough interest that SOMEONE AT FFG COULD AT LEAST RESPOND AND STATE WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

Not to much to ask, I hope …

From what I've read, in X-Wing you're quite often called upon to roll more dice than what comes physically in a game (comes with 3, but 4+ dice rolls happen regularly), in addition it has rerolls of those dice more commonly than in D2. In 31 plays of D2, haven't had a single case where I would've needed more dice than what came with the game, hence no reason to have extra sets.

It is diffcult to know where to begin with my reply.  But let me give this a shot.  I have own and have played both games many, many times.  While much of what you say is true when it comes to Star Wars X-Wing, it seems to me that FFG should not have put out a game which requires the use of more dice than the game came with.

In other words, rather than a defense of why FFG produced X-Wing extra set of dice so quickly, is should be a condemation for NOT INCLUDING THE **** THINGS with the original game.  No game should be produced and sold requiring the use of more assets than the game comes with.  If the game was made with that intent, and play testing bore that out, than the game should have come with sufficient dice to roll what is required in the worst case scenario … it should not be an opportunity to force me to spend additional dollars to get what I really need.

As for D2e, most people asking for additional dice are not doing so because more are required for any one specific roll … rather they want extra dice so that each individual, or perhaps each "team" can have their own set.  In this case, it is acceptable that they weren't originally included, because they aren't absolutely required, it is just a nice to have.

Now that we have demonstrated our willingness to spend additional money and buy them, why is it so hard for FFG to get this done?

This is the biggest problem with this company.  They make very nice games, but they RARELY appropriately play test them, and their on-going support to their loyal customers is truly ABYSMAL.

No argument on this, it's terrible not having enough dice.

For me, extra dice sets for D2 = miniatures for Arkham Horror. Utterly unnecessary, but people with money will buy anything reir . If it was a like like Doom's original, non-etched dice prone to the dice faces fading off, then a new set of dice, etched, would be worth it. As is, pass, it's quicker for me to grab the dice the hero needs from the general pool and hand them to you than for you to look at your character and gather up the dice you need.

I emailed FFG the other day requesting a date to expect the sale of additional dice for D2E and this was the reply:

"At this time we have no plans to release dice packs of the game for sale."

Baffling.

Apple cultists also have access to an iPhone Descent dice roller.

Fine for them.

My phone does phone & SMS only. And I intend it to remain so.

So it's physical dice or nothing.

Been playing again lately, and the hassle and distraction created by having to pass dice around all the time multiple times per turn instead of everyone having just what they need means remains a major irritant.

Would buy 4 sets without hesitation.

Fine for you.I also have home made dice (see some posts above) : eventhough more "square angled" the work well.

I will also get a couple of extra sets. Even maybe 1 per player so a total of 4 sets. Its always better for everyone to have their own set of dice. You avoid reaching all over the place, knocking down figures and moving things around accidently and that way you can potentially even make the game move quicker.
