2 Questions from a new Player: Reduced to 0 STR and not defending Military Challenge?

1) if a 2 STR character is poisoned and reduced to 0 STR do they just still sit in the game but are essentially worthless or do 0 STR people die?

 

2) If you do NOT defend a military challenge and let it through, do you still have to kill people or does the winner simply claim the 1 power for winning an undefended challenge?

Characters with 0 STR do not automatically die. A lot of effects kill or discard 0 STR characters, though. You can also continue to use a 0 STR character's abilities, so they are not necessarily "worthless," either.

From the Rule Book:

"Unopposed Challenges
During the “Resolve” step of any challenge, if
the attacker wins the challenge, and the defender
had a total STR of 0 (or no defending characters),
then the attacker claims 1 bonus power for his
or her House from the power pool. This bonus
power is in addition to all other effects of winning
a challenge."

So, if the attacker wins the challenge (which is virtually guaranteed if the defender does not declare defenders), the defender has to resolve the claim effects.  You cannot "side step" the claim effect (killing characters for a military challenge) by not declaring defenders.

Ok we played that totally wrong

 

That explains the mammoth row of characters we had across the table because we were not killing any of them off because we chose simply to not defend

yeah, no attachments means just that: you can't attach cards to him

there is no limit, provided each attachment is legal

Very minor nitpick: it means you cannot attach ATTACHMENTS. You can attach duplicates, though (which do not count as attachments).
