MOther 0 Posted February 14, 2009 The thread "Find the real TI3 Community at Wiki" seems no to allow for response anymore. Never liked the name for the thread but could not modify it after a short time. Never the less I think the thread shall not be burried among inactive threads so here is a link to it. http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=34&efcid=1&efidt=13506&efpag=0 The point of the thread stays; there is a thriving TI3 community to be found at www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl The community derives from FFG old forums prior to the setting up of this forum late 2008 There are 30+ play-by-forum games running and lots of customized rule debates. If you need help with vanila rules it can be found there as well Hope to see you there :-)
sigmazero13 102 Posted February 14, 2009 Great, way to see the FFG Forum Admins take the high road by ignoring the problem rather than fixing them. Yeah, it wasn't the most cordial discussion, but it wasn't anywhere CLOSE to some of the discussions on the old forum. Is this going to be a common thing now - locking threads when debate gets heated? Seriously, the problems discussed there, heated as the talk may have been, were REAL - ignoring them isn't going to fix them.
hantei40 0 Posted February 14, 2009 I've been enlightened and I speak with the voice of a convert. The Wiki is awesome, with EVERYTHING new and old players could want! Go Check it out!! FFG is probably still the best site for the product updates and news I think, but for the needs of 90% of playing, debate about the rulings, custom house rules, fixes for broken stuff, and 100% of PBEM/PBF, TI3wiki.org is your best bet. MOther 0 Posted February 15, 2009 Personally I am checking both FFG and wiki for TI3 stuff. On one of the greatest Dark Heresy unofficial forums, Dark Reign, FFG staff have actually been posting regarding errata and stuff. They have taken a lot of the better player made posts into acount and fixed some of the issues debated on Dark Reign with the latest errata. So I do not think FFG have anything against fan runned forums - to the contrary.
mkevans80 281 Posted February 16, 2009 Another plus to the Wiki is that the guy in charge of moderating is really on the ball. Have a problem or a suggestion? It will usually be fixed/explained or implemented within a day or two. Illumanus is doing a fabulous job.
MOther 0 Posted February 18, 2009 I can confirm that. Illumanus the TI3 Wiki sysop and moderator is really up to the task at hand. Another thing I entirely missed to mention is that besides 30+ TI3 games on wiki forum theres also to TI3 RPG games worth checking out. Remember one has to register to access PBEM part of TI3 Wiki forum. When logged in the two TI3 RPG can be found at: www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl FFG does not allow for direct linking but they can be found at (I suggest to use copy paste): RPG: Downfall: http://www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1231621478 Privateers RPG: http://www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1227373577 The two TI3 RPG are quite different from each other so check them both out
Stefan 732 Posted February 19, 2009 And more the better, Downfall would still be open for recruiting if someone's interested. Thanks for the linking, MOther.
MOther 0 Posted February 19, 2009 Stefan you are welcome. In return would you please consider to put a link to http://www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl in your tag here at FFG new forum :-)
Wyrenn 0 Posted February 20, 2009 Hrm. Mayhap I'll have to check out this wiki...
sigmazero13 102 Posted February 21, 2009 The wiki site is actually kind of divided into two "subsites": A wiki, which is largely used for PBeMs (but it does have a few other things), and a forum. Both are hosted at ti3wiki.org, though. The reason they are two "subsites" is you have to have a separate login for the forum and for the wiki; they apparently don't share credentials with each other for whatever reason
MOther 0 Posted February 22, 2009 I believe you can have the same username and password for the two sections of TI3-Wiki if you care to

Stefan 732 Posted February 24, 2009 @MOther: I would like to, but I can't. For some reason, the Sig function does not work for me as it should.

You may be right that people know how to find it though as far as I am aware you are not registred at TI3 Wiki forum or if you are under a different ID. That I interpret as you personally are not particularly interested in TI3 Wiki forum, which ofcause is totally your choice. However the point is mostly to let newcomers to TI3 forum aware of TI3 Wiki forums existence and I do not consider putting an url to an fanbased forum in your tag as spam. mkevans80 281 Posted March 9, 2009 I learned something funny recently. "BigKahuna" was one of the guys in the other thread attacking me and PsiComa. I didn't understand his immense animosity... until I realized that BigKahuna used to be XGuild. Everyone should know that XGuild has gotten into multiple arguments with regulars on the boards. In the last one, he insulted just about everybody on the board, and when he didn't like the backlash (spearheaded by myself and PsiComa), his posts devolved into blatant hateful obscenities and racial slurs. This is NOT a guy who should be casting judgement on anyone. The old FFG boards have been nuked, or I would provide links to the threads in question. Note that FFG said those boards would be up indefinitely, until they failed from malfunctions. Looks like that wasn't true... the boards disappeared the same day that it the new site took finally took over the old one's address.
MOther 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Yes but ofcause - they want to direct customers to their official site and honestly the old forums have been runnning longer than I expected. Not that I am happy about removing them
sigmazero13 102 Posted March 26, 2009 The old boards are actually still there, just moved to a different URL. I can't remember it, but there's a thread about it on the wiki site.
mkevans80 281 Posted March 27, 2009 Yes, we can see the old boards again! So I can now post the thread I mentioned. Lots of nasty stuff in there, though, so you'd better don your asbestos suit.... http://app.fantasyflightgames.com/ffgforums/posts/list/3903.page

4lterego 0 Posted June 7, 2009 It's not necessary to periodically resurrect this thread. I would kindly ask you to stop. Several of you from the wiki can't understand why I object to the continual wiki-whoring that goes on here. Please note I don't have a problem with anyone personally and of course everyone is welcome to drop in and participate. Even if you put the wiki address in your sig or link to some relevant topic going on at the wiki I don't mind. What I do object to is the abject attempts at poaching new members with claims that this forum sucks and the wiki is clearly superior. While I freely concede that this forum software is abominable and the wiki has a far greater activity level and number of members, none of that makes it any more of the "the real TI community" than here - positioning that I find snide and arrogant. For my own reasons I have no need of the wiki and don't care for it. I keep that to myself and don't bash the wiki, here or elsewhere. But when you come in here and tromp your dirty hobnails all over the place, I take issue. For just as the wiki derives from the old FFG forums, these forums in their new incarnation have the potential to gestate a new community wholly separate from the wiki - something that is far less likely to transpire if you keep trying to assimilate every new member, borg-like, that wanders in here. Otherwise we are left with these threadbare forums and the same old bloated wiki which, as popular as you seem to find it, is not to everyone's taste. It's the big picture that I am looking at here. So please, lay off the outright advertising. If one googles 'twilight imperium forums' the wiki's the 2nd hit - interested parties can find it just find without having to see it in every other thread here, nor does this one need to constantly stay on the front page. Thanks.
