2 quick questions (at least I hope they are quick)

Recommended Posts

Looking through character creation I noticed two things that struck me as odd - I hope I am just missing something...

1.  If a PC wishes to purchase a Combat Module or Martial Arts does the DP cost go against the 300DP limitation on Attack and Defense?  I don't think it does but my friend who is working through the rules along with me thinks otherwise.

2.  What is the "Inhumnanity" requirement?  Under advanced martial arts one of the requirements of one of the advanced martial arts is "inhumanity"  - does that simply mean one of the non human races like Sylvian?

Thanks

Todd

1.: Yes, they count to the limit for primary combat abilities. (Core Book, Page 56, "The General Weapons Modules").

2.: You can gain "inhumanity" through different ways. On is the Ki ability "Inhuman". With this, you can make inhuman action. And some martial arts (for example Melkaiah) need you to "perform" inhuman action. Some (but not all) races can perform inhuman action automatical (Ebudan can't and Jayan can only in strength-related checks).

So long,

The rules call out Martial Arts and Weapon Modules during character creation, but the rules for Style Modules explicitly notes they count too - this caused some confusion for me too.

1- martial arts, style modules, ars magnus and impossible weapons all count towards the combat primary but donot count towards attack and defense limits

1) No. The Combat Modules, Martial Arts and some things from Dominus Exxet all come from the Combat Primary section, which is normally 360pts at level 1. This is not the same as the 50% limit on attack and defence.

2) It is easiest to assume that the Inhumanity requirement is the Inhumanity Ki ability. There are other ways to get it, but only Inhumanity from Ki (or Nemisis with Dominus Exxet) always qualify for these abilities.

1. Combat and  Weapon Modules, and Martial Arts come out of your combat primary abilities.  So basically, if you are playing a 50% class, like a Thief, Assassin, Warlock, or Warrior Mentalist, you cannot choose anything from those three options without sacrificing some Attack and Defense opportunity cost.  If you are playing a 60% class, like a Warrior, Weaponmaster, or Tao, you can still only spend 50% (300 DP) on your Attack and Defense, but you have an extra 10% DP left over (60) that you cannot spend on attack and defense, and you can use that leftover DP to buy modules, martial arts, or even the Wear Armor skill.

If you want to be an armor-wearing Warlock, you'll want to take the Use of Armor advantage.  Warlocks and other 50% classes generally only know how to use a single weapon, and have no style modules or martial arts, and definitely no Wear Armor besides any gained through the Use of Armor advantage.
