What You hope most from Descent 2E?

The previews have already revealed that heroes do not respawn by teleporting back to town - they are just "knocked out" and need to be revived by a teammate.

if I'm not mistaken (and I can definetly be), they only showed that a possible action for a character is "revive another hero". I try not to over-expect about what that exactely means…

I hope for the game to be released tomorrow.

The pain of waiting and the major excitement are unbearable. Descent is my favorite FF game. Where do they get the illustrators for that new edition? they are amazing.

We hear you all too well.  To bad that it still has to be shipped out and that could take awhile.  I'm thinking that it should start to be shipped out either this week or the next to meet the deadline for the Realms of Realms of Terrinoth event at the end of June.

Well, I think that I would have the skill card read Geomancer then have below the different types of terrain and the effects.  Example: Water+Freeze(Stun type, and if the heroes cause at least one damage on them they break), Cave=Pitfall(Stun + fall damage), Wilderness=Entangled (like the spider web), and etc…  It would be just one skill card with the multiple uses.  Again, this is just a fun little idea that popped up into my head.  I love it when games add the environment as a factor.  It makes everyone have to stay on their toes and watch their footing.  I know that in the first edition that our OL would forget all of the time about us closing doors on his forces.  Especially if the door had a seal on it which only named monsters could open.  We screwed him over a couple of times with that old trick.

Just imagine doing a lightning/shock magic attack to someone on a water space.  It could be + <3 for every square they are in the water.  Single space units take one while large based units take four damage if they are all within the water.  Sure it makes the game more complicated, but I enjoy the little things like that.

Thinking about this and your earlier posts, I have an answer.
For the long rang/magic enemy that work with goblins: ork shamans!!!
Ork shamans that had geomancer magic: freeze/entanglement/collapse.
Now that’s a monster I as an overlord would love to play!

From Beren Eoath's post on the release date info he mentioned that in the Tom Vassal review of "Commander and Chief" you can see the Descent 2nd Edition box behind his head.  On the box Beren Eoath mentions that you can see a "Fishman/Sharkman" creature.  My first questions is what does everyone else think about that?  Personally, I see something closer to the "Sharkman", but it looks like it has tentacles or something coming off of it.  Any other thoughts on the subject???

ilikegames, I think you bring up a point.  Maybe the geomancer should be more a OL creature then a hero.

Also, I have been looking at some of the old Runebound cards and I was wondering if anyone thinks that they will ever use some of those enemies ever again, or are they just going to expand on the universe with all new creatures?  Personally I think it would be pretty cool to see the Blackwood Beast, Night Berzerkers, Shadow Fey, Feathered Wyrm, and much more again.  But I also understand if they want to go in a new direction.

I'm convinced it's going to be a blood squid.  Now that water (likely) no longer prevents movement, there is an absence of blood squid lore in 2E, and so I think the blood squids will have crawled out of the water and are now fighting the heroes face to face.  demonio.gif

OK Bleached Lizard, I have finally done my homework to figure out what you were talking about when you kept on saying bloodsquid.  This whole time I thought you were getting it from Runebound, but I should have checked Sea of Blood first.  Sorry about that.  We hardly ever play with the Sea of Blood expansion, and my OL would always call them Kraken tentacles.  Now that I am all caught up you make a good point about it being a bloodsquid, but couldn't it also be a daggertooth shark?  Since we never saw any of the artwork of what they actually looked like it looks to be up in the air, kinda.

Granted, I am now more on your side with the bloodsquid thing.  My reasoning: If you watch the video again you can see that the creature clearly looks to have two tentacles.  In the bottom right hand corner of the box you can see the Fantasy Flight logo, but you also see something else that is being kinda covered.  That could possibly be a third tentacle which would lend more evidence on the bloodsquid theory, but again you could argue that the thing on the top of it's head is a shark fin.

Does anyone know what these creature look like?  Lets start off with their size.  Are these single spaced or four spaced creatures?  I'm just going to rule out the two spaced creatures since we already have one in the second edition.  Please when you respond cite your references, so that others can check to see your sources.  That's just the scholar in me talking.

Actually, you should have checked the FAQ.  That's what I'm really referring to (I don't even own Sea of Blood).

Yeah, that is what I was looking at.  That is how I remembered the daggertooth sharks. happy.gif

Actually, I think you're still not getting it.  From the FAQ:

"Q: Why can’t I jump over water like I can pits?

A: As every hero knows, the dank water found in
subterranean caverns is usually infested with deadly
bloodsquids, ready to pull an unwary hero to his doom at
a moment’s notice. As a result, only the most acrobatic
heroes dare to leap across even the most innocent-seeming
pools of water."

This has been in the FAQ since the beginning as far as I'm aware, and has become a bit of a running joke.  I wasn't aware of their inclusion in Sea of Blood.

Don't worry I knew what you were talking about.  Bleached Lizard, originally I had forgotten about the whole bloodsquid water jumping thing from the FAQ.  Then while doing my homework on them I found that little article (the one you mentioned) along with the one for Sea of Blood.  I just assumed that you got the info from Sea of Blood since that is where they are found, so I didn't bother with mentioning the FAQ article(since they really don't play a role).  I simply went down the list of pdfs of rules for the first edition of Descent, and did a search for the word bloodsquid in each article.  That is how I tried to find what you were originally talking about when you kept mentioning bloodsquids all of the time.  They actually had bloodsquids in the Sea of Blood expansion along with the daggertooth shark.

Q: What new figures come with Sea of Blood?
Sea of Blood does not have any figures associated with it. There
are two new monsters, the Bloodsquid and the Daggertooth
Shark, which are represented by tokens. The tokens are inserted
into stands, much like the doors, to stand up vertically on the
maps.

I should have been more clearer in my response.  I should have said that I checked out the article you mentioned, and found more info from the Sea of Blood expansion (Since they were kinda introduced there with a physical piece.  Granted, its not as detailed as we would all hope like the other monsters).  I got what you were talking about, but I wanted to add again the bit about the daggertooth shark as a possibility for the new creature besides the bloodsquid.

Hopefully I have cleared everything up now with our miscommunication.  Sorry everyone for these past postings.

I want to see a less oppositional, more narrative driven game, more like HeroQuest. I guess I my role-playing background betrays me.

Wrong game for you then, as D2 is still Overlord vs Heroes through and through.

You can still get HeroQuest through eBay and such.

Yeah, I have to agree.  D2 will be like the first edition with most of the play be OL vs. Heroes.  It will have a little narration, but not enough for what I think you are hoping for.  I think that it will somewhat mirror the narration of the first edition.

I think there will be more narration than in 1E - they seem to be reinforcing the idea of a stronger narrative in 2E at every opportunity.

Looks like it is a picture of Merriod--but just what is Merriod?

Maybe it was meant to be "merroid" (mer-oid) and they got the order of the letters mixed up…?

I agree with you, but I don't think that it will be enough for those people who want this to be an RPG.

I think the best change in this regard is the obviously varying objectives for the OL (1st objectives were solely 1) harass heroes, 2) kill enough fast enough to deplete conquest to nothing)

With the removal of conquest there does not appear to be any more generic all scenario win condition for the OL.  Win conditions are now dependent on the scenario, just as it always has been with the heroes.

So, I guess my biggest hope is for a wide variety of quests (possible quest expansions?)  which would really challenge both the players and the OL to meet stated objectives above and beyond killing hero's and killing baddies.  Although a good 'run in an kill da big boss' scenario is good now and then also.  I wonder what the OL objective would be in a 'run in an kill da big boss' scenario?

Survive a certain number of turns…?

Can anyone tell what type of creature is shown in this preview picture.  I am looking at the red master monster on the back right hand side of the picture.  It doesn't look like the Ettin (since you can see an Ettin on the left hand side with his club).  To me it looks like it could be a couple of things, but I have no clue.  Does anyone know for sure what it is?  Again, I am looking at the one near the Leoric picture.

Some part of me wants to think that it looks like some type of rock giant or a creature made out of corpses.

I just can't wait to get my hands on this game.  I have so many questions I want answered.  Hopefully, I will learn a lot when I go to the Realms of Terrinoth event.  It's going to be one heck of a road trip. happy.gif
