Daenarys 9 Posted March 22, 2012 Taking control of characters : If you take control of an opponents character what happens to duplicates, attachments and powers associated with said character ? Condition attachments and duplicates : If a condition attachment would cause a character to be killed or discarded from play, can duplicates be used to satisfy and end the condition ( leaving the character still in play and causing the condition to be discarded ) ? thanks in advance
Staton 1 Posted March 22, 2012 When you take control of a character you take control of all its duplicates as well. You don't gain control of the attachments. Duplicates can be used to save from any removed from play effects (ie discard, killed, return to hand, returned to deck, returned to shadows, etc) but would not cause any attachments to be removed from a character. Underworld40k 51 Posted March 22, 2012 When a player takes control of a character they gain control of the duplicates and power on said character (so you can win a game by getting control of a character with enough power on it). Unless specifically stated the person who played the attachment retains control of it.For example, i have Arya stark from the core set with a duplicate and nymeria attached. Also due to her triggered effect i have gained 3 power on Arya by giving her renown. My opponent then takes control of Arya and gains 3 power and the ability to use the duplicate if they wish. I retain control of nymeria so if i think i might gain control of arya back I can choose to use nymeria to save Arya if my opponent decides to use her to satisfy military claim. Arya will still receive the +1 str and stealth bonus from nymeria being attached regardless of who controls her as it is a passive bonus. You will probably have to give an example of the condition attachment you mean but i'll use flame kissed as an example. Trait(s): ConditionText: . Ambush. If attached character has no other attachments, attached character gets -2 STR and is killed if its STR is 0.The upsetting thing is that this is what the game refers to as a terminal state, you cant even ATTEMPT to save from a terminal state unless the save removes the card from the terminal state as well, usually by combining the save with a strength bonus. But to explain it in the way i understood it when it first got explained to me, lets say you discarded a dupe to save from the effect, because the character isnt being killed or discarded the attachment stays in play (as it does not say discard attachment to do x), this means that its effect is still happening, so your character will die again and again and again until you have no saves available. As an aside, condition is just a trait and has no bearing on the attachment itself outside of other card interactions.Hope that helps

If the attachment is a "terminal condition" (meaning it kills the character as long as "X" exists), a duplicate will not save it as long as the condition continues. For example "Flame Kissed" If attached character has no other attachments, attached character gets -2 STR and is killed if its STR is 0. A duplicate could save the character once, but then you immediately check again, and if the character's STR is still 0, it dies anyway...

The Old Man 1 Posted March 22, 2012 Newbie question here: During a game, especially a 4 way melee, it seems you could have a number of cards under other players' control. How do you keep track of them especially splits between character and attachment control?
Staton 1 Posted March 22, 2012 There's a number of ways. Usually in tournaments you have sleeves on your cards, so you can tell whose those cards are. If you don't have sleeves then I would recommend some sort of colored token, like a die or bead or something, for each person. You'll probably want a few of each color so that you can put it on each card as it gets passed around.
ktom 598 Posted March 22, 2012 I think you'll find, though, that it's not that hard to keep track of. People tend to know where their cards are, and control change is not so common that it's hard to keep track of. Plus, you know, if you're Baratheon and there's a Martell card sitting in your field, that's a pretty good clue it "belongs" to someone else.
