What is in the "text box"

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

When I have a card that blanks a characters text box (like Milk of the Poppy) does this also blank their abilities like 'Stealth, Renown, Intimidate etc"?

I'm fairly certain I know the answer but I was hoping someone could confirm.

Thanks!

It blanks the whole box. Strength, Traits, and Crests aren't part of the box.

Keywords like Stealth, Renown, Deadly, etc are part of the text box and can be blanked.

Icons are not part of the text box either, nor are gold, initiative, and influence modifiers.

Icons are not.  The rest is.  From the FAQ:

Gold modifiers, influence, and initiative
modifiers are not called out with an outline,
and are therefore a part of a card's text box.

Blanking effects only affect the printed text box of their targets (you can still use a duplicate to save them, because that's a gained ability as well). If you only blank the character, the text of the attachment is still active. So if there are no conditions to the "gains XXX" on the attachment, the character gains it. It is the same if the "gains XXX" is on any other card (or even if it is in a triggered effect on the card itself).

If a character has Devious Intentions attached, blanking the character changes nothing to the fact it gains Stealth, Infamy and +1 STR for each power on it. If you blank LotR Cersei after she has given herself Stealth with her response, she will still have Stealth, though she will need to kneel to attack in INT challenges, just like any other character and she won't claim power for winning INT challenges.
