BL Reprint?

Recommended Posts

Well, I wonder, if there will be a new reprint of the Coregame?

It is over two years ago, DoW and Richard Borg brought out Battlelore. The thousends of game boxes must be sold? So what will FFG do?
A reprint in FFG Style?

And would FFG publish it just in English? Or like before in French and German language too?

DOW was on at least the 2nd printing and possible the 3rd before they sold it o FFG.  FFG is going to sell the remaining stock before reprinting it again.  No one knows for sure what they are going to do but it sounded like they were going to keep everything the same with the exception of putting their logo over DOW's logo.  As far as international editions, I think they would do their standard policy of shipping it out to others to print.

Several of the online retailers I buy from now list many of the BL expansions as "out of stock at the manufacturer".  Which sucks, as I have only owned the game for a month, and this makes some of them hard to get.

Trust me, there is no expansion that is "truely" out of print.   I can probably guarantee that FFG will reprint them all since none of them were limited supply.

I think FFG should take the chance and let both goblin expansions go out of print and release a new army-pack with all the troops from both expansions, perhaps some goblin heroes, all goblin cta-decks, som new lore cards, etc.

At the same time they should release a goblin upgrade kit for all us early adopters the way they are doing with Talisman 4th edition and Talisman revised 4th edition.

Oh, I know that.  But it might be an indication that the DOW stocks are getting low, soon to be switched to FFG.

I wish I still lived in Orlando. The creator of this game would bring his custom BL minis and table in to the store almost every weekend. Then I could also get the official answer for your question about a reprint.

Soon, very soon my friends!

Richard Borg

This is starting to sound like there is something more to it than a simple reprint...

Maybe we´ll see Battlelore re-released as a big box game (Tide of Iron, Star craft et al), with CTA, Epic, and the promo creatures included. And at the same time a re-packing of the gobbo and dwarf expansions.

That together with the release of Heroes and a campaign expansion should breathe some new life into the system...

As awesome as that sounds, I still hope that they would think of those who were not so lucky to get the promos but still got the game. As much as I would like to get my hands on the promos, I wouldn't want to spend the price of an entire game for them.

Here in Germany there is at least one online shop where you can order the base game with the two promos...I just don't have the money to buy a second base set. So it would be cool, if they did that (bringing out a big box) but for my sorry self I would also like to get the promos (and epic) seperately.

Mr. Borg,

I had no idea you watched these forums. There was so much I wanted to ask you concerning how you got started and how you got your product out to the public, but I was too afraid to approach you while you were playing or teaching at Sci Fi. I thought it would be rude. Kind of like asking a hollywood star for an autograph while they are shooting.

Don't even MENTION that please.... I just got into Battlelore, a little more than a month ago, and I spent a lot of time and effort hunting down some expansions, and I just bought CtA and Epic SEPERATLY.... If they released a big box like that, now,  then I just don't know  how I would react....

Grateful that you have everything and don't have to plunk down $100?  Happy that others have the opportunity to grab a great game without having to go through the same trouble you did?

People who do not have any of the expansions keep saying FFG should do this all inclusive 'army pack'.  But the problem with this is, what happens to everyone who has just one of the goblin expansions? Are they to now be forced into buying the expansion they already own again just to get the one they dont have? And what of people who have both expansions already? Are they are to be forced into buying them both again just to get some new cards, extra units, etc.? If FFG decides to reprint them, I surely hope they reprint them as they were and not into army packs and especially army packs with extra stuff. Everyone could then get what they want and not be forced  into buying stuff they already have or dont want.

I agree. I'm sort of a completist, from the Battlelore point of view, but I admit that too aggressive marketing on the side of "duplicates" give me some embarass; true, I can always come up with variants and new uses for "extra units", but I'm the "one of a kind" type. This didn't struck me as a problem with the musicians in both the gobbos specialist packs (they are a unit that give a strong advantage to an all goblin army, they seem a vital part of a stronger balance for the panicking greenies), neither I took offense from the dwarven spearbearer in HYW and DB (they are somewhat a "rank-and-file" unit tailored for the shorties-schiltron), but it's already stressful with the planned Creature pack: yes, it's democratic to allow latecomer to have the promo figures... but for the luckyest early adopter, a so hurtful choice to forget that Hydra... blast you marketers! You know this! - Just kidding, I worked myself one year and an half as a web marketer, so...

Personal tastes aside, there is a point that I'd like to make: Battlelore managed to create and mantain what seems to be a strong, cohesive and focused community; it feel the lack of an official scenario editor, for now, but it's still one vantage point being a follower of the game. When I wrote a scenario, I consider a certain mindset similar to mine, so I can tailor the scenario for other player taking into account that they can have 1 copy of this, 1 copy of that, and pointing that with clarity (something along the lines of "casual" "soft" and "hard" gamers, but I don't like the elitist idea that sometimes these terms have). Thinking about a situation where I must indicate how much copies of this or that product in the line are used, what's the units' count, where double units may come into play from which expansion, I'd feel a little disheartened... I don't know if I explained clearly what I mean, I beg pardon if somewhat it seems confusing... What I mean, in short, is that I feel that duplicating too often the same gaming-materials in the expansion packs could damage on the long distance the user-generated contents and the community, and what good come with it in terms of making the game both a pleasant and marketable experience.

That said, I was pondering myself if I'd find a "2nd Edition" of Battlelore a nuisance or good thing if including A LOT of new things, taking the form of a "Advanced Battlelore": something like 2 NEW non-human complete armies (like Undead VS Elves), and an alternative set of council members (say, General-Necromancer-Druid-Assassin-Knight - see the pattern?), and new spells, and new tiles... Well, a lot of things asked before by the fan and promised, mixed together in the big pack, but all new! If that could help to less the cost for mass production and greater selling expectation (if...), perhaps I could live with (a few) duplicates...

I think that whatever happens, some things will be unfair for the veterans and some things will be unfair for the recent newcomers...it's finding a balance between offering the newcomers the WHOLE Battlelore experience, without making the loyal veterans feel like they've wasted their money...

I'm actually getting back into gaming after many years of letting my boxes sit on the shelf.  I contribute my rekindled love of board games to the new FLGS that popped up in my area.  At the time it opened, I looked at Battlelore, but didn't know much about it.  I just shrugged it off at the time and moved on to other things.

unfortunately for me, I've done my research late and now have a major want for this game.  I've told my FLGS to put me on the list for a copy when they can get them again, but I find myself really hoping a reprint will come much sooner than later.  Any updated information on the reprint, other than there will be a reprint?

*rogerrabbit* Please?
