So, does this game work?

Recommended Posts

Black Crusade has been out for a while now so the first gaming groups must have been underway for some time ... and I am curious to their experiences!

Does the combination of Chaos Space Marines and regular humans in one group work?

Do players co-operate or does the game easily lead to inner party conflict, split parties, and off-the-rails adventures?

Does the game lend itself easily to believable campaigns and scenarios, or is it clunky to combat Arbites and other Imperial agents?

Thanks!

1: Lots of people say it works and even though Im apprehensive about it, it seems to work just fine if you dont have a campaign that is solely based on combat.

2: Depends on your gaming buddies. Black Crusade might seem like it could lead to inter-party issues but its really up to your players.

3: Yes campaigns and scenarios are just as believable as their other games.

The lone CSM (a Thousand Son Chaos Sorcerer) seems a pretty cool guy in my group.

Conflict would mainly be caused per your player's personalities, plus if someone wants to make a KILL EVERYONE char and the others aren't on board.

Fights are a little quicker than in, say, DH, since the PCs will most likely start with awesome weapons and be able to get combat talents quickly.

All of those pretty much depend on the gaming group.

Whether or not the combination of humans and CSM works is pretty much up to how the GM plays the campaign. We have 2 CSM in our group so we'll be facing a lot of hordes which attack the CSM before the humans.

The players do cooperate until their characters interests conflict with those of others... What happens then is up to the players.

Couldn't tell yet. We've played one session (5 hours) and we've only got to about halfway of Broken Chains. Quit a lot of OT that is... That said, I don't see any reason why we couldn't have compelling storylines.

If I could improve Black Crusade in just one way, it would be more classes for both races, so you could have diverse groups consisting entirely of either humans or CSM, as I find it a little odd to have CSM alongside humans.

Been out for some time? It's been out for less than two months for many of us. For my group, that's hardly time to finish up what game(s) we are doing and get started. Black Crusade hasn't really made a strong enough impression on us for us to drop one of the three games we run (one weekly, the other two alternate week to week in the same slot). I'm planning a BC game, but I won't really be ready to start it up until after the new year. In my experience, that's usually a good amount of time to wait to get into one of the 40K RPGs since it gives time for the first run of errata and often another expansion product or two.

I dunno. I've always envisioned CSM as extensively working alongside cultists, mutants, traitor guard, unbound psykers, etc. rather than operating solo. Plus, you can use DW, DH, and RT as extra sources for character types, since almost anyone can go to Chaos.
