So, let's see if I can get this straight...

Recommended Posts

Say I start a character as a Chaos Space Marine.  According to the character creation rules, I can choose equipment with a total modifier no worse than -10 (so anything -20 and lower is off-limits).  As I read the book, this means any weapons of Very Rare (-20) or higher upwards since you usually ever want a single weapon, which adds +10 to the modifier.  So, I choose to start with a Legion Plasma Gun (Very Rare), or, hell, even a Plasma Cannon (also Very Rare).

On my armor customization section, say I end up getting Power Supply Tampering and I choose the option to have an infinite power supply for my armor.  With these options, I can choose to have my Legion Plasma Gun or Plasma Cannon connected to my power supply, which is infinite in power and never needs replacing, which means the weapon never needs to reloading and has no clip size?

First part's correct, but the way I read the second part is you can attach the following kind of pistols: Melta, Plasma, Flame & Las, or any basic Las weapon to the tampered power supply.

The ruling is somewhat unclear in my opinion, but having a plasma cannon strapped to your wrist seems kind of absurd.

Perhaps a Plasma Cannon would be overdoing it, but I think perhaps the Plasma Gun would work.  Some WH40K models I've seen before show Plasma Guns attached to backpack power supplies.  I'd have to double check the Power Supply Tampering rule to be certain.

Yeah I agree that the inclusion of Flame weapons in the selection also made me quirk an eyebrow.

As for attaching a Plasma Cannon or Las Cannon to the power supply, I doubt your GM will let you do so (I know I wouldn't =)).  You could reasonably argue that it could provide the benefits of an Extended Ammo Clip upgrade to any attached energy weapons though...that doesn't seem too far fetched.  And possibly allow you to slowly recharge an energy weapon's clip over time.

Well, there are those backpack power supplies for Plasma Cannons and Lascannons when used by loyalist Space Marines.  If I were lucky enough to pry such a thing from his cold, dead hands and tamper with it, who knows what could happen then?

Those are large independent power cells mounted onto the armor's power supply/backpack, not drawing power from it.

True, but with a little...ingenuity and resources that are available to Heretics that only the most radical within the Imperium would consider using, nothing could stop said weapons from being infinite in ammo. demonio.gif

But that's a bit beyond the scope of what I'm currently looking for.  I'd have to double check the Power Supply Tampering rule, but I think a Legion Plasma Gun connected to a power supply that has infinite power could be quite useful for a brand new character.

...because creating energy from nothing is so easily done? Sure, you could bind a daemon into the whole thing. Whether that's a good idea is another question...

Sorry, its pistol class only for plasma, melta and the like.

Although an infinite ammo plasma pistol or inferno pistol is still ridiculously good.

For added fun, see if you can't get it forearm mounted for hands free goodness.

The power backpack of power armour is ALREADY capable of sustaining itself pretty much indefinitely, the tampering rule basically says that you mess around with that to get a *little* bit more output for a pistol-type weapon.

Anything else than a pistol is just overpowered though, and a poor idea.

Yeah it'd be "useful" at game start, but so would a twin linked las-cannon be, no sane GM is going to allow either, no matter what messed up fluff reason you think up for it.

What makes you think this is a game meant for sane GMs? Let the crazies have their fun too!

I like how a Forsaken with Ancient Warrior can get near-unique items at start up.  TERMINATOR ARMOUR!!!

That's easy - just Ancient Warrior and Poor-Quality armour...

Try having Ancient Warrior and the "Wealth" Pride, which allows you to have Poor Quality Terminator Armour, as well as a Reaper Autocannon for each hand, which can both be fired at the same time.

Ancient Warrior drops terminator armor availability to extremely rare, forsaken gets +10 bonus to get it and another +10 because he's looking for a single item. Doesn't need to be poor quality. Hell, you can get the wealth motivation and start out with the best quality termie armor.

The mention of terminator armour spiked my interest and I had a look at the rules for the armour and overall I dont think its that great an option compared to normal power armour.

I know it looks cool, lots of armour and cool abilities but its disadvantages for a PC are fairly severe, no running, no dodging, easier to hit. Its all fun and games until you round the corner with the guardsmen with anti tank weapons waiting or the creatures with warp weapons appear or the quick sprint to the shuttle before the planet is destroyed kick's off gran_risa.gif

If I ever got the chance to play black crusade I might consider giving terminator armour a blast but it would be fully aware that its not the end all.

Question - With the wealthy pride could you have the terminator armour as common? As a non- forsaken.

Wealth only gives you an extra test at character generation - it's not a guaranteed acquisition.

Plus, you are incorrect about the "Forsaken" bonus - that only applies to items of rare or less, and so would not apply in this case.

Actually no. Ancient Warrior only drops the availability on "Weaponry", not armour too ;P

It's one of those things that could do with clarification, though. It'd be more balanced if it was just weapons, yes, but whether it applies to all things with "Legion" in it is down to the GM really.

Yeah the Reaper Autocannon somewhat also falls into this category.

Pretty sure it would qualify as a Legion weapon since the description of it specifically mentions terminator's equipping it, but a GM might rule otherwise...

Dependant on the campaign I think it would have to be a harsh gm to say no.

I personally do not see any problem in letting people play cool, tough characters. They want Terminator armour, give it to them but play up some of the difficulties they experience with that gear.
