So, what will you play?

Recommended Posts

All the arguments about rules imbalance and such aside, what kind of a character will you be playing in BC?

I'll go for a hedonistic psyker, who either doesn't use her powers at all and relies on her allies to handle combat or overdoes it in a major way, most likely causing as much damage to herself and her allies as she does to her enemies. She doesn't carry any weapons with her due to their crude nature and likes to wear the most elaborate gowns, prizing beauty and grace over everything.

Mercenary Chosen that avoids the arguments of what path is right. He does his job, actually cares for his brothers (and worthy humans allies he accepts into his inner circle), but otherwise stays out of political/factional power struggles... unless the rewards greatly outweigh the risks.

Well I'll be GM'ing next year and I'll be GM'ing Black Crusade!

I won't be playing anything but I know the players interested in partaking want to go for such things as a Chosen Weapons Specialist (Iron Warriors) and a Thousand Sons or other faction Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer.

Plotwise I'd like to run a longterm campaign where the band of Marines end up together and slowly gain cohesion, followers, a base/ship and eventually become an important force in their region of space. The culmination of it all would be a Black Crusade into the Imperium of Man.

Female Chaos undivided  Heretek. Got exiled from the Adeptus Mechanicus after an incident with a Necron tomb. She believes the Adeptus is both too narrowminded and too open minded. They are too narrow minded when it comes to 90% tech and tech advancment "What's wrong  with AI? The Tau have plenty of AIs and it hasn't given them trouble" and is way too open when it comes to necron tombs "Almost The entire expedition got killed when the tomb activated, wait what do you mean we are going to explore another tomb?!"

She has no issue with the Imperium, even their more extreme methods, but she believes that the Machine cult is going to either  hold Humanity back too much or is going to get everyone killed with all their fiddling around with Necron tombs (She really does not like Necrons) and that Chaos and the Screaming Vortex in particular hold the key to overthrowing Mars, or at the very least strike a major blow against them

My current chaos char is a young Slaaneshi psyker, who we have a running gag about since I describe her as "lovely, but androgynous" and avoid gender pronouns.

The character's a lot of fun for a number of reasons, but one is because its entertaining to play a character who is enthusiastically supportive of her friends, and playing a beta type personality character instead of just about every other PC of mine, who is an omega.

Although I will more than likely be the GM for my group, I already have my character designed.

He is Father Cyriacus, a Nurgle worshiping Apostate.

Before the nihilistic acolyte of disease that now spreads the rot and plague of his macabre master, there was a warm jovial priest and medical doctor by the name of Father Cyriacus. The good Father oversaw the care of a small orphanage on the Calixis fringe on the Planet Iconium. Cyriacus, loved the children with all his heart and had dedicated every waking moment to them, but in a world that knows only war, not all Imperial citizens share the same kind heart as the Father. The ruthless crime syndicate that controlled nearly all of the planet began to expand their explore other options of growing their mountain of currency and so looked to the Ecclesiarchy. They began to demand 'protection money' from the local gangs(the ones they controlled behind the scenes ) through a large sum of church offerings and many would relent to the demands however one priest did not.

With how little money the church already made, Father Cyriacus could not afford to lose a single Throne, lest the children starve, and stated he would take his chances with the Gangs (while pointing his stub revolver at the money collector). One night, however, the syndicate's thug's broke into the church, brutally assailed the priest and dragged the bloody beaten man outside where they yanked his head up and forced him to watch as they burned the orphanage down, killing every child inside. Father Cyriacus' mind shattered as he beheld the horrific scene before him, the wailing screams of his children ringing in his ears. Something snapped within the poor man's mind and almost in an instant his mind sank into the abyss of nothingness.

He became numb as the scum began once more to brutally maul him but as the more his mind regressed, the less he felt of the physical pain. That was when the voice came to him. 'Let all rot beneath your touch... Let the bodies of your children fester into a garden of beauty and decay. Let the abyss swallow you whole and in return you shall drink deep from the puss of corruption... Let your mind drown Father... Let your children be reborn....' and beneath the blood and the tears, the good Father smiled.

I think I'll go for a Slaaneshi sniper. Lovingly stalking his targets from afar, building an obsession for them and their friends, family and daily habits and savoring the intimacy that is only ended by a pull of the trigger - until his next romance.

From what I've read so far, this seems to be best accomplished with a Renegade, with the characteristic bonus going into BS or Agility. Does sniping still benefit from additional DoS?

I'll probably do a Heretek character.

I've been playing a Techmarine in Deathwatch and he's basically a tank now so I think I'll design my Heretek to be an absolute wimp, lol. He'll get by due to his ability to repair equipment and weapons for more powerful allies in return for their protection. It will make a refreshing change of role-playing pace I think.

I've been playing an Unaligned Heretek for the last month and a half.  Love the grease monkey aspect.  He's also the party's lawyer.  Wrap the Loyalists up in red tape while we break in.  Also, it's a little hard to be a wimp when you can lift about 2 tons minimum as a starting character.  And that's if you only roll a 5 for your toughness stat.

How do you arrive at that number? Use a Servo-Arm?

As for myself, I've made a Iron Warrior Legion Marine called Lucifer Steele. He's a tough as nails  Unaligned space marine with an excellent ballistic skill and believes in taking his foes down from a distance with the most powerful weapons at his disposal. His Pride is Toughness (He's tough as nails), his Disgrace is Destruction (He believes in Overkilling his enemies and their works are reduced to ashes around him) and his motivation is Ascendancy (He wants to eventually become a Demon Prince and kill for eternity). I want the character to be a heavy weapons master, pretty much a Devastator Marine type. Too bad the GM won't let me start with a heavy bolter! DAMMIT!

Hi,

Aeryl. An unaligned renegade, at least for now. The son of Mirthos, a forge world adept with a talent for historical design, comissioned to the Imperial Navy to work on grand gothic interiors. His father fell for a wyrd from a lesser known agri-world in the Malfian sub-sector, soon after Aeryl was born, and his sister a coupe of years later. His mothers line carries the psyker gene through a dominant x chromosome only, and his sister shares his mothers gift. While the long years aboard the Eternal Triumph pass, with Mirthos away for months at a time, Aeryl becomes aware of his mothers favouritism towards his sister and takes this as a sign of his own shortcomings. Within this upbringing grows a subconcious drive to constantly improve himself to earn his parents respect. This takes him to becoming a valued prospect among the naval cadets onboard the Triumph.

Then disaster strikes. A random inspection from the Ordo Hereticus is warranted after the Triumph had been involved in the support of a classified operation in the vicinity of Port Wander. Aeryls family is found. His mother is executed as a witch beyond redemption as she attempts to defend her daughter, who is captured and taken by the Ordo to be given to the dreaded black ships. Mirthos is stripped of his station and reduced to a simple maintenance role, soon to give himself to alchohol and narcotics. Aeryl is cleared of suspicion but his record is forever tainted.

So he leaves the Navy, and becomes a freelance small craft pilot and sometime mercenary to Rogue Traders. The only driving passion sustaining him through these dark times are the hope that somewhere his sister may have escaped or survived, and an overwhelming anger at the brutal oppression that serves as a justice system in the Imperium of Man. Eventually an epiphany hits him. The only way to ease the regret of his own impotence at the taking of his sister is to provide salvation and safety to other lost psykers.

Am playing within an RT campaign though so kinda hoping not to balls up at the 10 CP threshold gui%C3%B1o.gif.

Yep.  Even a poor quality servo arm gives you a bonus of 14, since the minimum you could score for toughness would be a 2, giving you 27 for your score, you have a lifting weight of 1350kg, or 2970lbs.  If you roll a 5 you have a weight of 1800kg or 3960lb.  I lucked out and got a 19, so mine is 2700kg or 5940lb.

In the foreseeable future, the only BC character I'm going to play will be an omnipotent, all-knowing and ever-present Game Master.

I have at least several characters I'd love to play, though. What's telling, most of them are CSM. My first choice would be a Night Lord Chosen - basically, this guy: 1d4chan.org/wiki/File:Night_Lords_Champion_by_warp_zero.jpg.

A fairly charismatic Heretek that was a former adept in a Ixanaid sector responsible for chem production, she had her forge "off-worlded" (outsourced) to a hive world because it was considered a "tertiary" element to production. Eventually got fed up with being ignored and generally forgotten about by the Adeptus Mechanicus. Went AWOL, no one noticed and the few that did, didn't care.

The rest is an unholy mix of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Breaking Bad and the remaining 10-15% that's still human, is kept as completely chem-f**ked as possible. Mostly as an excuse as to why I'm just not very good at being logical... but quite likeable.

Sell drugs, make friends, try not to get shot at too often.

My current character is a World Eater with all the usual trappings of being a World Eater in that he's good at hitting things pretty hard. But I was worried that he'd just become two dimensional being "melee orientated" and "angry" so I've really latched onto the martial pride and almost a sense of martial "nobility" that is associated with Khorne. The idea that there are some people that are either weak or helpless and they're not even worth his wrath.

He's pulled out a lot of his cranial surgery as well, he still gets all the pain that the implants cause however he is in control of his frenzy state, I thought that having him frenzy out of devotion and seeing it as a far more "pure" rage adds a different level. The reason he fights (apart from dedication to the Lord of Battles) is he truly believes he and his Legion and Primarch were wronged by the Emperor and that the Imperium is oppressive, cruel and hypocritical refusing to acknowledge the truth or that there is "another way". War and death are facts of life, he's just an instrument.

In our first episode I spared someone who shot at me because they dropped the gun and were injured, it wasn't compassion there was just no sport in it. It wouldn't honour Khorne. I say spared...I wounded but didn't kill him, I also left him on a crashing space station so the outlook didn't look good. Pride and honour were the same motivators that made him go back and fight a Slaaneshi swordsman (Emperor's Children) in one on one combat when escaping would have been a much better idea. So there we go. So far I'm loving it, hope I can get to develop his character a lot more...have to see.
