Mykel The Vile 0 Posted August 25, 2011 You know KTOM Im going to write down your post about anatomy of challange phase and action window stages exactly how you have typed it. It seems to read a lot easier on the eye than the PDF book, for me anyway. And hopefully for my group.
ktom 598 Posted August 25, 2011 Mykel The Vile said: So when I play Lethal at that stage, say window 2 prior to framework box 3 (where I can choose to defend), players to the left of me now have the opportunity to play a save/cancel responses to my event Is that right ??So it wouldn't be resolved striaght away as someone might be able to cancel my Lethal event card. Remember that when you slap down Lethal Counterattack - no matter where in the "anatomy of a challenge," you have to resolve the event by going through the 6 basic steps for a player action (initiate, save/cancel, resolve, passives, responses, end). So what really happens when you play Lethal is that as part of playing the event card, everyone has the opportunity to cancel the effect or save the characters that would die before the effect resolves. This is NOT part of the player action box where you choose to play Lethal. It is part of the steps you go through to resolve Lethal in the first place.Responses, whether save/cancel or otherwise, are not considered player actions. They take place as PART of whatever action (player or framework) that they are Responding to. So it isn't that you play Lethal, but it doesn't resolve yet because someone might play a cancel later. You play Lethal, and if someone doesn't cancel it right there and then, it resolves. From what you have said above, you seem to be thinking that "I play Lethal, then the next player does something like using Greatjon Umber's ability, then the third player cancels Lethal." It doesn't work like that. Instead, you play kneel your two characters to play Lethal, you look around the table and say "anyone planning to cancel that or save the characters? speak now or forever hold your piece!" The general order is always Player #1's action, Responses to that, Player #2's action, Responses to that, etc. Mykel The Vile said: its really complex.Ultimately, it isn't as complex as it seems at first. It's really one action window concept that keeps repeating, over and over. Once you figure out the limits of the action window's basic 6-step process, and cement the idea that Responses are not actions in their own right, but rather additions to other actions, it gets a lot easier.
