Hordes - now they're blobs!

Recommended Posts

I hate but understand hordes, though it's a single model with a number. Therefore I have thought up a 'blobbing' rule -

- When you blob, you don't use a single model with a single number but instead use several models with 1 wound or maybe more.

- Firing works as normal, also gaining a +10 bonus for every multiple of ten models in the blog (starting from ten models)

- Damage is distributed between models in the blob, if the remainder is not enough to kill them outright then ignore the fraction.

- You could even have different weaponry within these blobs.

- Their toughness and armour is collective, meaning you use a single value for all damage dealt. I.E Tidius causes 29 points of damage, the blob has a toughness of 3 and an AP of 6 though the Pen of Tidius' heavy bolter is 6 therefore the AP is irrelevant in this equasion. The blob absorbs 3 out of the 29 damage and thus only takes 26 points of damage, the GM takes away 13 models as each model in the blob has 2 wounds.

- For every two degrees of success, add 1 to the damage done to the blob. I.E Tidius rolls 29 points of damage from 2d10 (getting an 5 and a 9) +10 because of the Heavy Bolter and he gets 10 degrees of success, giving him another +5 to his damage (He took an aim full action, Full burst and since the blob has 20 models the modifier is +20 and from a BS of 41 it means Tidius rolled a 001).

Any thoughts?

Yes, using models. Understandably it's not feasable to use 100s of models if you have various hordes but it doesn't get a nicer feel than taking out a lot of models in one or two goes.

In the Mark of the Xenos. If you have enough miniatures (unlikely unless you are doing Guard or something, and even then only enough for 1, maybe 2 hordes) and the space (even less likely) they suggest having 1 model for every point of magnitude. They have a sort of extended zone of the control where they can hit things further than just in case to base contact.

They also have a suggestion if you want to only use 1 model... something like it has a "reach" of an extra 1 for every 10 magnitude.
