Aliens for Dust

Recommended Posts

Hopefully that design stays in 1/35 scale and we get regular 1950s style gray aliens in power armor or space suits with freaking laser pistols . . .or maybe some angry sea bass with lasers strapped to their heads? That sounded better when I said out loud .How about this, Gray aliens with Buck Rogers laser pistols in space suits or power armor.

Haven't read the comics so I'm coming into this cold...which is probably good for me.

Aliens seem more interesting as time goes on. The sculpt looks fine. Raises lots of possibilities. Do you think this might turn into a war between worlds? If so, is this likely to take a Turtledove bend where the traditional WWII foes ultimately are forced to cooperate? (Zombie armies might make this a bit difficult.)

It should turn into a War of the Worlds ala Turtledove. In the Fluff Sigrid killed the one alien that was working with the germans but not before it sent out the distress call and the aliens are looking for resources...so its pretty certain where that ends up.

Personnally I think the alien machine looks great- Tripod, big ass energy weapon, dosnt look anything like the humans. If the final release looks anything like this then Im sold

Hummm... I'm not too sure about adding the alien faction to my games. I hope future expansions still allow me to only play the human factions.

we're ecxited about the Vrill, hopefully not the one pictured above.  its a major part of the Dust Wars story, so we will welcome our alien overlords with open arms

Well, I just really don't fancy that unit  shown above. Doesn't seem to fit well with the other factions, and it's so fiddly I'd be scared to even touch it, let alone paint it....

i'm with you, not a great looking concept for weird war II game.  I want more Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon retro style.

This is a better view than the one I saw...thanks for posting it.

I like the creep factor and it can be painted darker to suit that purpose, or the reverse if necessary. Creepiness , IMO, keeps it in the pulp feel.

Not so crazy about the hands and feet. For such a seemingly advanced machine, they seem awfully primitive and fragile. operating a weapon seems nearly impossible w/ the claw that's currently empty.

Question: Are the aliens cybernetic? Or are they like in Independence Day, where they're small and in a big bio-cybernetic suit?

Thats an amazing looking model. I agree it doesn't look like the theme for the game but then I feel like a pulp sci fi look would be too cliche. But if you're not into aliens, you don't have to collect them. Just stick with your axis or allies models

In the comics the Vrill are humanoid and about man sized. Looking at the model I think it looks to be either cybernetic or a robot as there dosnt seem to be any crew compartment.

Wow,

Well.. im not sure exactly how to feel. I love these models..but agree that they just dont feel right...that said i agree with most about a more sci fi 50's look.. but please dear gawd.. can we avoid buck rogers , tiggy, and lil' green men. please.

So i found some more news about this model its a concept from when Dust was still in development and I mean Dust the Board Game not Dust Tactics. Like this is years old. So hopefully the ones we see in the comic is the approved concept and design. Let Us Pray!

Im fairly certain the Vrill themselves will look like they appear in the comic. The question is what will their machines look like? The Hecaton kit is labelled as Vrill Heavy Warmachine on the package. Personally I like the fact that their machines look so "alien". As for the fiddly bits that kit is an extremely detailed resin model that is only produced in limited numbers to an extremely small market. Im sure any plastic gaming pieces will be toned down and not have all the fiddly parts. I hope they keep the Vrill machines looking alien either like the hecaton or maybe some of the more bizzare SF3D/ MaschinenKrieger models and not go the Gundam light look like they did with the Cogs...even if they do though its all good as its new stuff to paint/play with gran_risa.gif

I think that model looks pretty cool however I'm a bit worried that this game might expand more than I'm willing to keep up with. My whole draw to this game was the ease of access and low cost of the minis. Having just bought two base sets and the command troops for both side, I'm hoping all this new stuff doesn't come out so fast that it makes the current stuff less desired.

just pick one faction.  i am an ally player exclusively and have no issue keeping up with the game, and like the quicker release schedule we've had.

Pretty much same here. Mainly an Axis player, but have a small contingent of Allies for days when I want to switch it up some. Captain Brown, two Infantry Squads, 1 Walker (1 Walker, 1 Infantry traded to my friend in exchange for the equal in Axis models). Though I will expand my allies to include Red Devils.

This is nothing to keep up with, but then I'm the guy calling for FFG to give us official cards for regular troops and tanks so we can build store bought models for them and play them in addition to the Dust Tactics special models.

Have to agree with you there. Compared to other games, a few squads and wlakers here and there is much easier and cheaper in Dust. 2 Squads of 5 guys in Dust, about $20. One squad of 10 guys from GW $25, that you have to assemble and then buy extra sets for to get all the options that squad can have.

If you want regular troops, it is pretty simple: They are Armor 1, and their weapons are similar. For Axis you have the STG 43 Assault Rifle, which I would drop the armor 1 attack option and reduce its combat die to 1/1 across the board, and perhaps make them Agile. I would also increase the unit size by 3 - 5 figures.

Allied would follow the same as the Axis.

It is with tanks where the problem arises. I think Tanks are going to be bigger and faster and better armored for the most part. I keep seeing the Panther 2 with a dual cannon and dual nebelwerfers, but slow and requiring a larger turn radius, which would involve a possible template. Allied tanks would be similar.
