Being a little unfair to the chap I think. Yes, a touch histrionic but it's nice to have people who care about games. I concur - albeit not as stridently - with some of his concerns, especially as someone who has just invested rather heavily into the game (despite having nobody to play with as yet!). The relatively simple points system and the simplicity and brutality of the game were of great appeal. I agree there are some balance issues, but they do vary from map to map and mission to mission.

As to the new set, I'm very interested to see it, though a little disappointed in the poster maps, rather than card tiles. I'm also a little concerned that the weird/special factor is being turned up so high so early. That said, as a complimentary 'boost' to the existing figs, the new starter seems like a great, cheap way to supplement an existing army and to save a little cash if you're a collector. :)

I can imagine the main reason to going towards the poster maps probably has to do with the fact that many people seemed to have issues with warping of the tiles especially in areas of the world where there is more moisture in the air.

They only warp when you first use them, don't have any problem now at all.  I expect the poster map is there simply for cost reasons, you can buy the card ones seperate if you want.  Suits me as I have a purpose built board anyway for large games :)  And as all my terrain is 3D, looks like I'll be building a bridge.

As I said in another thread, I don't think the posters are going to replace the tiles. First of all, they've released a tile set along with the revised core edition. Second, they've stated that the future expansions will have tiles still (they need it to pad out the costs :P ). I think the posters were included so that 1.) they could bring down the cost of the Revised Core Edition by $20 and 2.) so that they could cut down on the size and weight of the revised core edition. However, I don't see the posters replacing tiles any time soon other than as a weight/cost efficient accessory at times.

Hmm, not sure what to think of the new point system but I do understand the need for it as the original point system didn't allow for the new expansions. Now having said that I really do hope that if they release TT rules it is more as a downloadable pdf to appease the TT gamers then setting the game into that direction. The tile system works amazing for LOS, Range, and Movement. It makes a no nonsense way to get the turns done quickly and effeciently without being bogged down into the extra 1/2" of movement and blah blah blah. I am quite willing to see what becomes of this and really do hope that the developers realize how important the ease of gameplay and the quick rapidfire of the game is the true draw to this game. It is these values that have turned me away from 40k and to Dust as I can have my friends over and play multiple games in the same timeframe as a 40k game.

By releasing a Terrain Tile Set, with possibly more sets to come, I think FFG is indicating its commitment to using tiles and grids for a long time to come. And as Delta_Ice suggested, maybe they can release TT rules as a downloadable PDF to appease TT gamers, and not make it an official ruleset for the game or its tournaments. Then, the game can retain its fast and furious spirit, and yet can be enjoyed by TT gamers if so desired.

I stay in the tropics where humidity is very high, but I do not have any problem with warping. Could the warping be due to the storage process before the boards are mounted with the terrain picture? The only issue I have is one of my boards has the terrain picture peeling off at the corner, but nothing that I cannot solve with glue. I am really looking forward to the Terrain Tile Set.

Wow lol so I finely come back from my trip to find out ppl are having mixed reviews over this points system to the point that Inquisitor withdrew even his account from FFG this is funny. I for one think they should accomidate for both and just leave it plain and simple that the AP is equaled to the Armor Value.

Saying that "people" are having mixed reviews seems rather unfair. More like "person".

While I agree that they could have retained both systems, it's also nice to have a clear cut absolute answer for what a unit costs, otherwise it opens up room for arguments on the gaming table. Plus, if you want to keep on using the old system, it's just so ridiculously easy to convert back to it that I have a really hard time understanding what the fuzz is about.

O I totally agree and most of the time I use the old tournament points more than the AP. I just think its funny of a certain persons idea. There is also enough room at the bottom to put both AP and new Points on the card, for those who do disagree with the points. I am for the new points it evens out the playing field a little better.
