while i dont have any yet that require it , we have decided on a temp house rule to deal with long figures .

DOUBLE BASE : while most units fit easily into one square , and some units hang just a little bit over the edges but still only count as occupying a single square , units with “double base” are just too long to fit in just one square without seriously taking advantage of the rules . As a result , they are placed on a longer base that is considered to occupy 2 squares for purposes of LOS , unit stacking and movement . Units with double base may draw LOS and range from either square unless hindered by another special ability . When moving a unit with a double base , pick one of the two squares the unit occupies and use that square for counting movement . The other square is considered to “follow” the one used for measuring the move . The unit must end with both sections of its base occupying a square that are not diagonal to each other . Note however that the square NOT used to measure movement may not move farther than the square used to measure the movement . All squares that a unit with double base moves through and occupies at the end of its movement must be squares that the unit could legally occupy .

basicaly if you have ever played heroscape , its like their rule for double based figs .

we also have a rule for such figs for shooting as needed , but i dont have the chart made up for the arcs yet .

FIXED ARC : most weapons only face one direction , and while that may not matter for single square sized unit who can face any direction , when you play with larger figs that have odd shaped bases , it can become an issue . As such some weapons have a fixed arc to represent what they can actually shoot at .

they are pretty simple though . starting with the first square beyond the basse like normal measuring . a FIXED forward would be have an arc that is 1 square wide , then 3 squares , then 5 squares , etc  this would work the same for fixed side and rear arcs . a simple forward arc starts as 3 squares wide , then 5 , then 7 , etc .... extending outward . same for sides and rear

I can see why some my dislike the vehilce. The early pics looked a little less than appealing. The finished results though are great. I like the add on of the front of the halftrack. Good work.

you asked about aircraft earlier , i finished my airplane rules playtesting , and am waiting for BGG to approve the pdf file on the DT page . i have already posted the stats at BGG i came up with for a number of aircraft .

here is a link to the amazon page i bought my planes from . DO NOT use the hobby shack one , use the overstocktoys one . hobby shack has the item listed wrong , so the $15plus shipping is for 1 plane . the over stock sells the entire dispaly kit of 12 planes for $55 plus shipping which drops the planes to about $6 each .

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000V7V0YC/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

one warning though , i had gotten the kit in , and hadnt opened them all up or put the ones i am keeping together , so i THOUGHT i had 2 bf109's like the product descrition said , but when i finally started puting them together last night i discovered i had 2 zeros instead of the bf109's ich is fine , the zero stats are a little better IMHO . so the kit includes 12 boxes , 2 each of 6 different airplanes . i hope to save up and buy another , hoping to get some bf109's , or mig 3's

you can also buy 1:48 scale biplane retailer kits for about the same on amazon

i have come up with rules that we playtested over the course of 3 weeks to get them down . the final piece of the puzzle fell into place when FFG posted the OC rules . the multishot ammo rule made the bombs work perfectly .

i have submitted the PDF of the rules to BGG to post , but they are slow going on file approval .  my stats for the planes are at BGG in the forums section of the dust tactics page . had a problem trying to post them , their forums tools kept skipping the bomb stats , but i stated BF109 , D520 , P51 , P40 , F4U , Mizubihis Zero , MIG3 , supermarine spitfire , and some biplanes .

plan to work on making stats cards eventually , but am to busy right now .

one issue i came across when looking at all the airplanes is that for the ground units , its fine for them to be fairly standardized and similar , for instance on move values , while tanks may be able to reach X speed on a flat out open run , in practice , they pretty much all opperate at a speed of 30MPH or less , so speeds for all tanks will be similar . unless you have some external factor , all the infantry will prety much move the same speed . etc ...

same thing with weapons , most vehicles only had 2 or 3 weapons . infantry squades had more weapons , but spread out over more models .

this isnt so with airplanes . in order to interact with the battle field , they need to slow down , but they cant all slow down the same and all stay aloft . same issue with their weapons , some planes had only 2 or 3 weapons including the bombs , but then you have planes like the F4 that had 6 50 cals , , 4 20 mm cannons , and  bombs and or rockets . i had to work at getting them all to be playable , fun , not over powered , and simple enough to use , and keep the character of the planes without dumbing them down or having to power them up . i came up with a few simple formulas to put it all together .

and it seems to have worked .

i will warn you , you need a very large board/field to play on

YAAAAAAYYYY ,  after 4 days of waiting , BGG finally posted my flying rules .

 http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/64742/screaming-fifties

hope you all enjoy it as much as we have , but let me warn you , the rules are intended to let you add planes to the game , they are not intended to suddenly introduce some all powerfull game breaking new toy . and if anyone has a problem understanding anything , please let me know :)
