Spivo 3 Posted August 8, 2010 Currently running TEW with 2nd edition, but am contemplating converting to 3rd edition... The chars has aquired roughly 900-1200 xp, due to running adventures before starting campaign). One a noble, wanting to switch to outlaw (just ended SoB). I pondered to make him a rogue/gambler, and of course let him keep his title. One an entertainer, wanting to switch to Charlatan. No idea... maybe Agitator? Last is an vagabond, wanting to go Hedge Wizard. I have ideas for handling Hedge Wizardry (he's not the type of player who's gonna cast a lot of magic, very downplayed, so not worried about chaos etc... the last campaign he was a Master Wizard who maybe cast 1 spell/session). I need help with both finding careers to match, not match name, but more match the skills they're used to having access to... And also help on converting their current xp/progression with the new system of ranks/xp.
Spivo 3 Posted August 8, 2010 Forgot to add that we've run about 6-7 sessions.
apelite 1 Posted August 8, 2010 The easiest way to do it, I would say, is not to bother converting, but simply having your players redesign their charatcers in the new system, and give them the same number of advances to spend. Only your players will know, for example, if their noble is a burgher-y sort, or a dilettante sort, or a student-y sort, and whether he'd be the sort to employ a Nimble Strike, or an Insulting Blow, for example. I don't think you can really make hard and fast rules, but redesigning from scratch in the same setting is pretty easy. Although, for 6 or 7 sessions I wouldn't give more than 7 or 8 Advances. Emirikol 436 Posted August 8, 2010 There's a conversion set in the House Rules, but you're still best just re-making characters under the new rules. Jay H
mcv 9 Posted August 11, 2010 If you need careers that are currently missing, it's not very hard to design your own. Figure out which skills and stats are most important to that career (you can use the 2nd ed career template as a guideline), then consider whether that career should be more aimed at actions, skills or something else. Make sure the totals add up to the same as for existing careers. The hardest part is probably creating a balanced career special ability (but they're not always balanced for existing careers either). Then get Strange Aeons and print out your own career cards. And post them here.
